IM getting a deal on a Kenwood navi deck. The price is good on both install and unit price.

However, i dont think 150 for steering wheel controls install is worth it . Thoughts?

maybe they do it differently then just the plug in play like this:
or am i missing something? could they make it more difficult.

    Metra 70-8114C Factory Integration Adapter

Do you think I should get the install done but by this adaptor for 15 bucks and pull out the deck and hook it up myself?
is it difficult to do this after the install?

thanks for your help and opinions

There is a fitment guide on Metra site here:

The harness you specified would work if you had a 2011 or below tacoma with non-JBL I believe. the 2013 has more pins. But don't worry, bottom line there is a harness for even 2013. Once you have the harness, its so stupid simple. I didnt use one, since i didnt feel like waitin for it to arrive, I just soldered in to the wires themselves. But ya, its not hard.
If you were in San Diego, i'd say but it, cruise over and I'd toss it in for you just for fun.

After your stereo is installed, that plug is just free not doing anything. you can plug the harness in to it, then plug that in to the ASWC-1, then plug the output mini-stereo plug in to your headunit (or for one kind of headunit you crimp two wires, no biggy).

    thanks for your reply...
    few more things:

Is it a pain in the ass to get the head unit out and all the cables put back in?
Dont want to ruin the install. Never done an install. Just seems ridiculous to pay 150 for something so simple.

    went with the kenwood dnx890hd

Oh and i have a 2010 double cab non jbl.

Simple. There are videos on youtube. I pull the HVAC controls forward, they snap out. They have little plastic things that pop in and out. Then you can easily reach and pull the whole bezel that covers the headunit. From there you see the headunit clearly. there are 4 little bolts holding it in. Undo those 4 and the whole thing comes out. There is so much room back there too, nothing to worry about. I've taken mine in/out probably 8-10x in one day as I was messing with various things. As you get more and more stuff in there like RCA cables, steering wheel control box, a GPS antenna, iPod cables, etc. you have to be a little more cautious with where you put the headunit. You first kind of gotta move things to the side to make room for the HU to slide all the way back. Obviously if you left stuff behind, then as you put the HU in, the bolts wont line up and you cant secure it. Take it out, push the wires to the sides, clear room and push it in again. Seriously easy. You can remove the headunit in less than 90 seconds I'd say.
