Some years ago I noticed a buildup of black grunge on my 1998 TRD's brown (tan?) steering wheel. So I (mostly unconsciously while driving) picked at it with my fingernails.

Then I tried to clean the rest with vinyl cleaner. It was then that I discovered the grunge wasn't grunge but instead, it was the finish of the wheel's material.

I suppose this is a natural result of the acid in sweaty hands?

Can anything be done with the steering wheel other than replace it ($$$$) or live with it :( ?
