Hello all, I just bought my new 2023 off-road long bed and I have the same exact issue; so far, I took the bottom and top cover off and it looks like the noise is coming from the sponsors and clock spring assembly section. I'm not sure if I would like Toyota dealers to touch my truck since I never had a good lock with dealers not messing up my car unless I find a faulty part that needs to be replaced under warranty. Going to update you all once I take the steering wheel off and dig in more and hopefully, I will find out the source.

my 23 Trail does the same thing. I thought about mentioning it to the dealer at 5k service, they'll need to address the airbag recall anyways.

I have a 2020 TRD Tacoma Off Road. It has the same issue. It’s not the cowl behind the steering wheel, which I’ve removed. It’s coming from the steering wheel itself. It’s a rubbing and grinding noise about 30 percent of the time when turning the steering wheel. I’ve verified while in park.

I have this same issue on mine. Bought in April, 6700 miles currently, sounds like a rubbing noise when turning left or right, even more noticeable when im backing up and turning.

It’s not normal. My, then new, 2012 Tacoma SR5 developed this noise within 500 miles of purchase. I sent it back to the dealer who solved the issue. Not sure if something was dragging against and adjacent material or something wasn’t lubed at the factory but it came from service completely silent.

Huh, seems to occur on later models . Quality is supposed to improve on later models not degrade. Anyway it should be an easy fix .

Had the same issue on my 23.

found that the white bracket that holds the plastic covers to the steering mechanism was very loose. Zipped tied it into place and also gave the lower claw a bit of help with another small zip tie. Lastly laid a small bit of felt on the bottom inner section as it was rattling. Put all back together and the plastics now don’t move and no scraping sound.

mines a Mexico truck so go figure. My 17 did not have the issue.
