I recently spent some time in a nice car, and have to say.
Getting back in the Tacoma felt like the steering was hard, and wobbly.

I know the feel is probably fine and due to hydraulic power, vs. electric racks in new cars.
There probably isn't air in the system.

However, I am wondering about the wobblyness. Almost like it wasn't perfectly straight, or the steering wheel shook a bit. But not while braking like it used to; the cause of that was warped rotors that I fixed on a lathe.

Is this a normal thing and simply how trucks drive? If so, I'm fine with that and will deal with it.
Or could it point towards a more serious issue that needs diagnosing?
    (~130k miles)

For example, if the wheel bearings are going out.
On Audi I expect front bearings to go as early as 100k, and on Benz I just re-adjust them because they're serviceable. Audi ones are not.

I guess it never hurts to throw new parts at a vehicle because then you know they're new,
but now you're beating on a new part on the trail instead of an old used one with life still left in it,
and throwing a bunch of new parts can quickly get out of hand cost wise

Probably should replace the engine, it’s not a very nice car, it’s a truck.:annoyed:

Its impossible to know if you have a "real issue" without someone driving it. However i drive a 350z with coilovers aftermarket braces and swaybars etc. It has both heavy and precise steering when i get in my taco after not driving it for a while the difference is very noticeable everything feels a little loose and wandery compared to the road car. You are probably just usedto your road vehicles.

It's a truck. They drive like a truck, not a sports car. And Tacoma's are by far not the best riding truck. Not saying there may not be a problem, but I'd have to drive it.

Am hoping it's normal and not symptomatic of a bad wheel bearing. Maybe I can check the latter by lifting it up and grabbing the tire to wiggle it and feel if there's any play.
The suspension got more comfortable after installing Bilstein 4600's. Just wasn't sure if the steering feel was normal.

I drive a car and a truck. Maybe I'm just used to switching between each vehicle but I don't care about the difference. When I'm in a truck I already expect it to drive like a truck

what you are feeling is likely just the difference in tires and wheels.

Nothing to worry about. It’s a truck and drives like one. You will know when something is wrong.

Best way to fix this is to go drive a JK wrangler, then get back into the Toyota.

Actually I might know what you’re saying, my wife’s 2008 highlander feels “wobbly” and unstable even compared to my 2005 taco. I chalked it up to it being a Limited with plush suspension. After you drive it for a while you get used to it. As others have said nothing wrong, it’s just a truck.

I recently borrowed a friend's Corvette Z06 to pick a load of lumber at Home Depot. It was really weird the way it handled with 1500 lbs of wood strapped to it.

I never noticed it when I used my Tacoma for the same type of work. Better tell my buddy something isn't quite right with his Vette

It sounds like you need to do the spot weld of the rag joint for your interior intermediate steering shaft mod.

He needed my truck for some track time at local autocross event and I needed to haul some wood. Seemed like a good choice for both of us. :notsure:
