I did some front end work which required removing the right tie rod from the spindle. Wheels were turned while up in the air. When I reassembled it the wheel is off center. The tie rod end was not removed or replaces. Is there a way to recenter the wheel at home or does it have to be taken to a alignment shop?

You must have unscrewed the tie rod end from the rack, right? That being the case, and unless you used the same tie rod end and know you got it screwed back in to exactly the same place, your alignment is going to be out of whack. Same if you did not unscrew the tie rod end and replaced the lower ball joint assembly. Even a slight difference between ball joint assembly dimensions could cause the alignment to go out of whack.

If you didn't unscrew the tie rod end from the rack, or replace the lower ball joint assembly or spindle, and put everything back together the way it came off, I don't see why the alignment (and steering wheel centering) would have changed.

If it drives straight, you can turn both tie rods the same amount and center the wheel. How much depends on how far off the steering wheel is. Got a pic?

It still would be good to get it checked to make sure you don't have excessive toe out or in and are not damaging your tires.

Thanks, I didn't turn or replace the tie rod, I don't know what happened, I'm getting ready to install 5100's and will have to get aligned after, so I'll let the alignment guy fix it. Hopefully
