Steering wheel shake on new Tacoma. Really?

Hi John, I know this is an older thread but appreciate your concerns. I had exact same issue with a brand new 4-runner. I went through all of the hassles of tire changes, balances, alignments, road force balances (twice), dealer inspections, etc. etc. etc. Bottom line is that the 55-75 shake was NEVER solved and I ended up just selling it. I was looking at trying again with a new Tacoma but wanted to check this thread and sure enough, another manufacturing lemon found. Such a shame because I love everything else about the vehicles. I'd be curious if you ever got it solved? My guess is no but I'm rooting for you!

You seem to have confused "normal" with "dealer doesn't want to deal with it". Steering wheel shake is not normal and a safety hazard.

Hey Talonator! I haven't gone back to the dealer yet to address this with a tire warranty claim.... I did have a local shop rebalance the tires. The front two tires wouldn't balance so they moved them to the back and I can now confirm I no longer have any vibration or steering wheel shake. I'm annoyed with the dealer giving me the runaround when I first went in to get it checked out... not sure if I'll go back to that specific dealer, but Discount Tire said only the dealer would be able to file the warranty claim. Even though, I plan on getting new tires for next year I'll take the claim and drive on the new ones till I make the switch.

Shame you had to deal with the same issue on a 4 Runner. I'm sure you broke even or made money on the sale though.

Curious if going down a hill, (maintaining speed) leaving up on the gas pedal if the shake was still there ? On my truck the vibration disappears which makes me wonder if it was tire related would the vibration/shake not still be present ?

Been reading this thread and scratching my head. Thanks for the last video posted.
Just bought a 2013 4x4 DCSB with full TRD suspension and aftermarket wheels/Pirelli Scorpion tires. 104K miles.
Truck had a now and then shake at the steering wheel. Drove it 450 miles home with no issues really but I find the shake annoying.
Took it in to the local tire shop and had them balance and rotate. Checked tires for roundness. Fronts where in balance rears not so. Rotation was fronts to rear crossing the rears X to the front.
Now tit's worse, prominent at 40-60mph the steering wheel shake is ridiculous.
Kind of in a state of let down.
My ‘97 had a slight shake, but with this newer truck I expected a better experience…
I suppose I need to crawl under the dash and check that intermediate shaft for all that's worth, but this complaint seems so common. Anyway, the video is great.

E rated KO2s feel like that every cold morning, little bit of a wobble at the steering wheel until they warm up. Reminds me of the old bias ply's

I did not mention on mine there's an AAL leaf pack as well.
That said, went for an outing today.
Same same 40-60 wobbly steering wheel. Above that only slight.
We loaded up with about 200 pounds of rocks for our garden and drove back. Oddly enough the 40-60 was still there but not as bad as when the bed was empty (5' bed).
    Any thoughts?...

I had to get my brake rotors turned for vibrations at this speed. But that was at 30k+ miles.

Mine has started to do this on certain roads, it has 75k miles. I believe it is a worn bushing somewhere in the front end.

Giving this thread a bump for all the shaky tacomas out there. Mine has a developed a weird highway shake that seems to be tire related but no amount of balancing or aligning will fix it. New tires didn't fix it. Ugh.

It happens, you drive the new cool truck and it feels great and has all the cool new buttons and new seats and you buy it.
