i can see that being a thing but i didnt have any problems with the KO2 with he exact same lift.. but maybe because its a more agressive tire?

It’s in the front diff like what his guy said

They are known to go out especially if you install a lift. There’s numerous threads that goes over this. Some goes out the very next day they install a lift, some goes out hundreds of miles down the road, I guess yours may have given out when you installed taller tires. The aftermarket part cost $60. You can do it yourself but you need the right tools which are like $160. I just had a shop do it so I don’t mess anything up while they were installing my lift.

I had a similar situation on my 2016 I had general grabber AT2 tires mounted and balanced at the dealership. They even have a road force machine. But it really takes a skilled employee to correctly mount and balance so much rubber. I brought it back multiple times and finally gave up and went to a large truck alignment center and had them mount and balance the tires. They deal with big truck tires (semis and RVs) far more often, and they perfectly balanced them on the first try. There is still just a very very small vibration but it’s due to the nature of lugs on the tires, and really only I notice it. Hope this helps. I would try this approach before you go doing anything else to the truck.

Honestly, it will be hard to tell from the exterior. The only way to figure out if it was the needle bearing is to actually replace it and see if it goes away. I would just go ahead and do it if you can. The bearing normally only last around 75-100k of regular driving until it starts wearing out (with a lift and offroading it wears a lot faster). Might as well replace it now with the aftermarket bushing that doesn't have that problem.

Vibe still present in 4H? If driving in 4H eliminates the vibe, then it's almost certainly the diff bushing.

This is where they figure out where the heavy side is on both the tire and the wheel then they turn the tire to match the wheel. Tacoma's can be hard to balance some times. This procedure is highly recommended...

Had a problem with my Gen 2 truck that sounds like your problem. Got a set of graber at-2. Balance try multiple times with little result. Finally one of the brighter tech observed that one tire was not round while it was rotating. Different tire and problem solved. GTS Bruce

I had vibrations/shimmy with brand new tires and aftermarket wheels on a car at around the 48 to 52 mph range.

I went back twice for a rebalance that did not solve the problem. I then went to another tire shop for a balance and it still vibrated.

A purchase of different, new tires solved the problem.

Did the tires have high road force numbers?

I had a similar issue one of my tires had about 60 pounds of road force, they swapped it and now the only vibration I have is the needle bearing.

is that needle bearing a steady vibration or does it come in cycles?

Wait till it starts to vibrate, usually around 40ish, then put it in 4hi. Dont start in 4hi. If it goes away, its your needle bearing. They will replace it with a tsb needle bearing and it will go away. I've had the tsb for 45k and no issues since.

Also, loosen your lug nuts and re-torque them with torque wrench. Shops are bad at hammering them with impact, causes issues too.

I have this exact issue to a T, cooper stt pros and that’s the only thing other than that it’s stock. Had it in the shop twice and it’s still there. They swapped out factory wheels/tires the last time and said it drove great with them so I stopped paying attention. Some tires are prone to feedback in the steering wheel.

It comes in cycles, the only time I notice it is under acceleration from a stop
