Howzit going guys. I got a steering wheel shake at around 45 miles per hour. I just had the wheel bearing changed as well as the inner and outer tie rods about 3 months ago which did not solve the issue. I brought it to an alignment shop today and they informed me that there was play in the wheel on the drivers side and said that I would have to replace both the wheel bearings and tie rods which I think might be the generic answer they tell everybody.
Also when I turn my steering wheel all the way from a dead stop, it sometimes makes a popping sound on the drivers side.
I was wondering if anybody knows about an underlying issue with these trucks that would cause play in the wheels other than the wheel bearing and tie rods? Any help is much appreciated.

The obvious thing to check would be tire balance?
    Has this been done?

    How are the ball joints?
Ball joints can cause play in the wheel and a popping sound.
As well as the worn or loose control arm bushings.

The culprit ended up being the brake rotors, surprisingly enough.

Could also check the steering rack bushings? Heard that can be a problem also. Energy Suspension sells a poly bushing set for about $50.

Also, could just be shitty roads on Oahu? Lol. But serious, it’ probably the rotors, or as others said tire balance. If not I’d look into the steering rack bushings. Just do a search here. Or as said above, tie rods, LCA bushings, etc.. really could be any suspension or steering component going bad. Even just your shocks being totally shot to shit will make the truck do some weird shit. Shoots brah

Don’t know if you’re 4wd but could be a cv issue also.

    Mahalo for the help guys,

I just replaced the upper ball joints last week. Also, would the alignment shop have told me if the control arm bushings were worn, since they have to adjust the lower control arm?

It is a 4x4 as well.

Regarding the popping sound, any chance the u-joint on your steering shaft is shot?

That could be a possibility. I’ll check it out later, but only the drivers side wheel has play.
