Sliders are not a good step. They stick out, but they don't really drop down -- meaning they don't provide a lowered place to put your foot. It's a shelf, and you can stand on them to reach higher on the roof of the cab, but they don't provide much assistance for people who need help to get in and out of the truck (if anything you have to step wider to avoid them as you get out).

It sounds like you need a step, and you want a step, and you have no real desire to go off road. So even though I own the RCI sliders (because they're what I want), I'm going to be unpopular and say, "get the step."

It sounds like you got incorrect info. The kick-out is practically mandatory. It's actually saved me when I cut something a tad close. I think they look really tidy. The place that powder coated them has the contract with Toyota for their factory side-steps, so the finish I used is the same.

I had steps. I eventually bought sliders because I have a DCLB and the steps definitely hang really low for break over angle.

One mistake I made, was I thought sliders were protection and sort of steps too. They are not steps. Not at all. They do not hang down. They stick out. For me, at 5'9 they don't change anything about getting into the truck, but getting out I tend to slide my leg on them as I exit. So if anything, they are a bit of an annoyance. I am happy with my sliders and keeping them, but wanted to throw that in as another thing to consider.

If you do any offroading at all, I would highly recommend going with sliders. Sometimes even on a casual/easy trail, things can happen.

Also, f*** all pro... I understand that in the past they were a good and well respected company; but something changed along the way. They screwed over several of their employees, and they screwed over a whole lot of customers (myself included).

    a few...
Sliders I would recommend. Everyone has their own preference in them but I really like my RCI sliders with filler plates and Line-X coated as they have been on my truck for 15 months now and solid as h*ll. There’s a lot of great slider manufacturers out there for our Tacoma trucks. Happy shopping.

alright y'all... after a lot of consideration I decided to order the Tyger Auto step bars. As much as I wanted to get sliders I thought it would be in my best interest right now to not spend $900-1k on something I won't need right now considering I won't be taking it off road any time soon.... instead paying $269 for some good looking step bars with protection from door dings ( hopefully) was the best route to take. And when I decide to start doing some major off roading I will def make the plunge and get some Sliders!..... anyways I think I made a good choice and with the money I saved I went ahead and ordered a TRD PRO Grill from Caliraised.

Thanks for all the help guys!!

My wife loves the the inexpensive, $150.00, ones I installed. They are perfect for getting in and out but required a little modification of the mounting brackets.

Well I learned the hard way, damaged the rocker panels off roading through a pretty challenging trail. Going to get some body work done and getting rock sliders. IMG_0130.jpg

In my opinion, if you are worried about that damage, off roading might not be your forte.

I’ve had them a few months now with no complaints.

I like the look but understand they are not frame mounted ruggedness, but they are really stout for body mounted steps

they look great! can't wait. Also ... this picture looks like you covered the stars? what did you use to cover? That was the only negative thing I didn't care for on these step bars.... just not a fan of the stars.

Cali Raised LED are currently selling Apex bolt on rock sliders for $630 (no shipping cost for local pickup). Made from DOM 1.75" tubing. I think this is a good deal.

Nah sliders work fine for vertically impaired as a step up with the passenger grab handle. Not down though as I've seen some calf bruising from my passengers. You tend to just want to clear them when getting out and hop to the ground. I don't use them as a step either way, in or out. However my dogs have gotten used to them and actually use them as a step in and out even with no fill plates. Unintended bonus.

I ordered a set of these, looks like a good deal. Cant wait to install them, i have been holding off on doing some serious off-road until i get a good set of sliders.

Some damage to the truck is inevitable but hopefully can reduce the amounts of severe damage.
