I personally don't care for any type of running board/tube..etc. However, I need some protection from other people that just don't care about slamming their door into my truck. I can deal with the predator bars or maybe even Toyotas OEM boards. Does anybody know how far these stick out? I'm trying to find "protection" that sticks out the least. I don't need a "step".

I didnt go all crazy measuring and what not on mine, but i left my brackets attached to my nerf bars that i pulled off my 2014, didnt have to loosen them up at all to attach to my 2016....may eventually get the ones with the 3rd step for the bed, would eliminate me having to climb in the truck when mounting my bikes on the fork mounts on the front rail

My problem with the predator steps is the fact it hangs down low and looks like something that would potentially get hung up or high-centered off road. I had nerf bars on my 1st gen and while I didn't get them to function as sliders, they really saved the underside of the body a few times from rocks and other debris off the road. Probably kept a few door dings off the vehicle as well. I'm planning on getting the TRD OR 4x4 with the Q9 package as it comes with the black tube steps. I don't do any heavy rock crawling that would require sliders but the nerf bars will be a decent line of defense otherwise. I don't want the predator steps because they just hang down and protrude too far IMO.

Do the 3" NFab hang out far enough to protect from door dings?

You may want to look into rock sliders. They are strictly for protection and essentially useless as a step.

Probably depends on what truck parks beside you. Where the steps are yes and the rails stick out a bit as well but I could see another pickup truck able to hit my door and I don't think theres any step that would protect against that.

If you don't need the steps I look at sliders that stick out far enough to use as a step ... there's a few around. Those would protect you.

They would of look great on my truck if the first set I purchased did not arrive, which was loss during shipping by UPS, then the 2nd set was damaged severely by UPS, and the distributor sent me a 3rd set which also arrived damage by the same carrier. So I told the distributor just forget it on the 4th set and reimburse my money. Its damn shame that can't even rely on a carrier that has be around for a long time and has a good reputation.

ditto that. That is the ONLY reason I put my steps on. I hope they put a hole in your door when you fling it open into the side of my truck!
