I didnt know they existed either until i went to look at it but I love my reg. cab stepside.. its rare and a little different from the rest... the smaller bed isnt an issue for me since it holds all my work gear just fine and roomy enough for camping road trips... and the side steps do come in handy for climbing in and out of the bed.... but if you needed to haul ply or sheetrock regularly i would definitely look elsewhere...
Not liking the look of hardtops on the stepside i decided to go with a softopper which I think looks much better, is functional, and light enough to keep the big 4cyl happy...

Tried loading some pics but internet is slow here in Alaska... sorry

Who makes soft toppers for them? Yeah i wasn't feeling it either but i couldn't pass up the offer. I use to have a Thule rack on it for my kayak.
But yeah, this is my first pickup so the bed is more than big enough for what i use it for. that and i don't have something to compare it to. If i want a bigger bed then it'll be #flatbedconversion but that will probably not happen unless i really messup the bed.

Well.. I usually have more time than money.. so I scoured the web until I found a good used one for $500 shipped... I think they're $700-800 new.. but it took a while being a stepside.. try adhuntr.com - it searches Craigslist coast to coast.. shippings not bad cause these things are really light and compact when broken down

not bad but thats like metal and suspension parts right there. I've got the hard shell right now but that will definitely be a consideration down the line.

also, thanks for that black hole link. So good.

Yeah the first I was going to guess Joshua Tree, Mohave National Preserve, or Lone Pine, but the second looked more like closer to the Rockies with the sedimentary rock. You and I have similar tastes in four wheeling and exploring!

I've got one of these as well!
Initially wish I could have found a regular bed but the one I found was too clean.
I have made it my own and it has grown on me.
What are you guys running for toppers? The only company I have found that seems to be making one that works with the stepside is ARE and I can't say I really love the look of the way it fits between the cab and the bed.
Really hoping to sleep out of the bed when camping and have been debating between a Softopper or a custom cab height bed rack with a custom made canvas top / bug netting system.taco-cropped.jpg
Next purchase will be Bilstein 5100s to level out the front.

About to pick up this tonneau cover from my friend in a week or two. ARE makes them custom for our trucks...
