2021 non jbl, adding a sub and amp to factory radio, plugged in add a amp behind factory deck and stereo no longer turns on. Unplugged add a amp and still no stereo. Checked all fuses as well. Any ideas? Anything I’m missing? Thanks team!

Does stereo turn on without the add-an-amp plugged in?

Ah, no it won’t work with or without the add a amp now. I’ve installed several of these and never had this issue before.

Do you have a multi meter? You’ll need to do some troubleshooting

You want to go ahead and check for constant power in your main harness (the thicker white wire in the 10-pin connector)
Then check for accy power (the really thin grey wire)

And as simple and dumb as it sounds, make sure the connectors are plugged in all the way. Sometimes the Toyota connectors can be very stiff going into the back of the radio and it might feel like things are in, but they may not be fully set

I don’t see a larger white wire any bigger then the others anyways

I triple checked all the connections, they were strong and didn’t change anything

Also, these two plugs don’t seem to have a home that I can find. Not sure if I accidentally unplugged one of them from somewhere

The one way in the back is a ground junction. It’s taped up tight for a reason. The other one is definitely going to the radio, but it should affect actually turning on.

That’s weird, there is nowhere to plug that in and it is kinda taped looped back to another harness out of the way.

If it’s intentionally taped back out of the way, you may not have it. By the Looks of it, it’s either backup cam or aux, but I’m not sure off the top of my head

Gotcha. I have power in the harness, no blown fuses. Has to be the stereo itself. I returned the truck to stock and made an appointment at Toyota

I was using one of these, I can only think it was worded wrong and fried the radio maybe? Is there a better, safer way to add a amp that you can recommend? Thank you again for all your help!

I would also test for voltage on *both* sides of the fuses involved

    At the battery fuse box
    RADIO NO. 1

    At the interior fuse box
    ECU IG NO. 2
    ECU-ACC

That’s what I did. Tested everywhere and even pulled and checked fuses that weren’t relevant just in case. Based on that the only logical conclusion is the stereo itself is dead. That being said I don’t want to use the add a amp I did this time just in case it was wired wrong and fried it
