    hello,
my stereo or speakers are not putting out any sound. My stereo works fine except for no sound and ive never noticed any problems with my speakers. i can tune to radeio, cd, and ipod and no sound. Wondering if this is a wiring issue. not an electrician, so im just looking for advice for where to start and any problem solving ideas to help narrow down my search. any help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Thank you

Check your fuses first. If if is an aftermarket stereo there may be an inline fuse in the back of the unit, or added inline in the wiring behind it.

I haven't looked closely at the stock stereo (pulled mine out first thing), but often there are 2 fuses/circuits for the stereo, one is constant on to maintain memory functions (settings and radio stations etc) the other is switched and is higher amperage. It may be that the switched circuit is blown and so there is no power to the amplification side, while the constant power is used to run the display, so it looks like its working.

I have seen stereos set up like this, but I have no idea it this is how the Toyota unit works. If its aftermarket, or you have other aftermarket equipment (CB, lighting, alarm etc...) any of that could be interfering with the stereo if the install was hacked.

If you determine your original stereo is bad, I have my original CD/Tape/Radio from an '02 you can have it for $20 - basically the cost of shipping.

Sounds (or doesn't) like your stereo is done for.

Probably not the fuse. Check the wiring. It you remove stereo you see a harness with plug going into stereo. This plug is removable. That plug is probably loose and not seated in all the way. When you pull out your stereo be sure to unplug the antenna also. When you put your stereo back in, make sure wires are ran clean and not getting smashed. Same with the panels, don't smash any airbag wires when putting panels back. Don't start the vehicle with an of the airbag plugs unplugged or you'll have an airbag light come on and won't go away.
