Is there any way to tell if a 20 TRD Off Road in quicksand has an upgraded stereo from the looks alone. Looking at one and the seller actually has no idea if it has the upgraded stereo. It has no sunroof and it's cloth if that helps.

They stated, "It does have larger touchscreen with navigation that comes along with the premium audio, It's not JBL."

This doesn't make sense to me. I would think the larger screen would mean it's the JBL system.

If I can get them to send me the VIN is there a way to look up the window sticker?

There are three grades of stereo on the 3rd gen.

Small screen - typically seen in SR trims. Silver knobs on top of HU.

"Premium" - large screen, black knobs on bottom, side buttons are star-trek touch interface. Not JBL. I know it says JBL in red. It isn't.

JBL - large screen, silver knobs on bottom, side buttons are also actual buttons. Comes with subwoofer. Not very desirable amongst stereo enthusiasts despite being the top trim. The weird resistance on the output makes it difficult to mod.

Don't let the radio be a deciding factor. All the stock options are brutal.
Just set aside $300 for an android headunit and it will last you years.

As I've posted in other threads though, not all units are created equal and stay far away from the cheap Amazon stuff. Some of those units are slow and laggy with barely any ram.

When it's almost time to purchase a radio, check the forums over at xda-developers and you can see what devices everyone is using.
Right now as of 2024 the best processor you can get is the UIS 7870

Looks like there is no BSM, Parking Assist or Heated Seats if that is important to you.

the jbl option will have a jbl icon screen-printed on the center radio screen at the bottom center, and the cubby behind the passenger-side rear seat will have a subwoofer grille and a smooth panel, instead of a small shelf-like area for containing items to the area.

the jbl system consists of a radio and an amp that talk to each other digitally. there's adapters to change either only the radio, or only the amp, but it generally ends up costing about $300-500 more than a non-jbl system to do anything to because of those required adapters.

however, if the head unit and amp are removed, it's mostly the same cost/process as the non-jbl system for upgrading and compatibility--main cost increase will be re-using the old speaker wire in additional harnesses.

Wasn't the Entune 3 head unit used in the newer trucks with Premium non JBL.... with proper buttons on the sides like the JBL.
