Has anyone replaced the stereo unit in their 03 Taco, with a 6 cd unit from another Toyota vehicle? Has there been a write-up if they have, and might it be possible? I'm an idiot so please be gentle.

Toyota hasn't changed the wiring harness since the 80's for radios that are not JBL. Wiring up shouldn't be hard, fitting it on the other hand I have no idea on.

Toyota has many different stereos in the different cars they manufacture, even under different names, Scion and others. Double din is what I need, but cutting up the dash a bunch is not an option. So far the FJ stereo unit looks close to me. I was a foreign car mechanic for 20 years, so I have a little experience tearing things up, and getting them back together. I just haven't been in the business since the mid 1990's, so I am a little out of touch with some of the newer stuff.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.

I use CD's all the time. If you want good sound quality you run a CD. MP3's sound like shit.

I'm interested in swapping out my factory unit with something a little more modern along with some new speakers, but I've never been too experienced in finding the right system speaker combo and don't feel like breaking the bank. Had an old friend from college hook me up with selecting the right combo for my old car and wiring it up for me. Anyone upgrade their systems without going so far as putting subs or amps in?

You would really need to have your music in FLAC lossless format to really get a pure sound from you digital music.
