Yes, there is an interlock pin and it needs to be removed. You have to split the case to do that.

Ok, I thought there would be, just couldn’t find, or perhaps overlooked, reference to the tacoma case. Everything seemed to be for the older pickup/4runner cases or the FJ cases. I’ll do my best to take some pictures along the way.

    Thanks @theesotericone

Someone else just asked me about the interlock last week. As usually happens the week before that I deleted all the bookmarks I had for the dual case install. You know, because mine's been in for 2 years. lol

Here's a link to my build thread on t4r.org. The info you want starts on post 457. I didn't document it super well but it gives you a pretty damn good idea of what you need to get it installed. If you email Rory from Rad Designs he might have a link to removing the interlock pin from the chain drive case. He usually responds pretty damn quickly.

Sweet, just took a gander. Thanks for the link @theesotericone . Did you have to pull your tail housing for your different coupler issue, or is it a necessary step even if the splines counts are correct between crawl box and trans? Mine is still on, and none of the directions I’ve read through mention it, but I do remember seeing mention of that c-clip all over the crawl box thread.

You have to take out the factory bearing in the tail housing. You could probably do it with it in place. I like bench work and there's only 4 bolts that hold it to the transmission so I removed it. That also allows you to test fit it to the crawlbox adapter.

I can't recall exactly where in the tcase, but I do recall them being a b1tch to put back in place with the retaining spring or something like that. Been several years now since I torn my case apart.

Well I totally opened it up, and thanks to the help of @theesotericone and @slander I was able to figure out what they are and where they go. Now the issue is that there should be three of them and I for the life of me can only find two.. I’ve looked in every nook and cranny like 20 times and am losing my mind trying to find the third one. At this point I’m wondering if two out of three will do, or if I should abandon them completely. I’ve killed the last several hours on this and need to move forward

I certainly don’t blame ya there!

I like the challenge and reward of these sorts of jobs, and have the patience to jump in most of the time, however, it really does suck when you run into something like this.. I mean I’m beginning to wonder if it only ever had two, if the third wasn’t installed at the factory, I’ve looked so damn hard.

Mine where never replaced. I can't shift on the fly anymore. Other then that no ill effects. I'm pretty sure 2 of 3 would still allow the planetary gears to align for on the fly shifting. It might just not be as smooth as when you have all 3.

I’m thinking it’ll work with two as well, I’ve got the clutch sleeve over it and it has good solid function, clicks up into and down into position.. I’m gonna go spend another 15 minutes looking some more and if I don’t find it I’m just going to go ahead with two.

Pretty familiar with this thing now, if I have any issues I’ll just pull it and take the other two out.
