Thanks! Ended up going with SOS Performance rear disk conversion kit. It uses their backing plate and 4runner brakes!

What did the rear discs cost. I want to do this to my taco. Did you have to do anything to anti skid?

It was $1k and no not yet, however, I may be adding a proportioning valve and upgrading my brake MC at some point in the future to really tune the braking performance. Need to drive the truck more and look a little more critically at the way the new brakes are working and what could be better. It's already an improvement for sure, but I can see where installing a high performance system is only scratching the surface. Still needs some work to get the best results.

Main thing was with the rear brakes I kept installing the drum parts in the wrong order and it took me several attempts to get the order of operations down, as it was my first time rebuilding a drum brake. That, and cutting the OEM backing plate off was a BITCH. It's surprisingly thick and took a lot of time and effort with a cutting wheel and then a mini sawzall for the tighter places. Other than that the rears were alright to install. With the fronts it was clearance issues. Had to cut off most of the OEM dust shield and then 'trim' my Total Chaos spindle gussets with a cutting wheel. The part where I trimmed was not a load bearing point of the gusset and I sprayed it with some paint when I was done to hopefully protect from rust a bit. Went relatively smoothly and was able to get a mm of clearance between the disc and the spindle. The wheel side was close as well but had more than the minimum 2mm of clearance between caliper and wheel at the closest point so I am satisfied

Thanks man! I've got like 30 hours of time logged at DIYG working on the brakes alone but for the most important system on the whole truck it's worth it.

I'm looking to do the rear brakes and a BBK up front one day but after the trac bar my budget hit me in the face. which is fine since I'm super happy with everything and I'm dialed in, but you know... the restlessness. ;)

How she came in that day:
After we successfully put together one of the rear brakes. It was a super PITA if anyone is considering doing this or a similar mod I can give some valuable insight into putting together drum brakes now that I did it about 10-15 times total. Every time there would be one step out of order which would warrant taking the whole thing apart and restarting!
Finally here are two shots taken as I was leaving after taking off my old fender flares and trimming a tiny bit of plastic and metal out of the wheel wells. It didn't help, still rubbed a lot but oh well I tried haha. CMC coming soon

Nope, my girlfriend ordered them for me for my birthday last year! Knowing what I know now I'd probably try it myself over sending out, retrofit, then shipping back. But they came out pretty good though I'll give them that!

I dig the brake conversion kit! I want to do that some day as well. This is a heavy truck when I get it all loaded down.

2-12-18: No photos to update but I spent some time yesterday doing some maintenance things on my suspension system. Namely, I cleaned my uniballs off with a microfiber cloth and some pb blaster multi-purpose lube, as well as cleaning the shock shafts and bodies, and reservoirs. Also greased my budbuilt traction bar bushings @St.Germain watch out for the lower bushing it can get low on grease and then it kinda feels like your shocks are blown (hit bumps and bounce around after). Turns out, some more grease takes care of the problem  Amazing what a difference spending a little time and elbow grease on the suspension parts can make, bumps and speed bumps in particular are much smoother!

    thanks for tagging me brother.

i dropped her off 2 hours ago for install tomorrow.

i will now keep a close eye on things. do you use PB Blaster for all those spots, including the bar? or different lubes for different spots?

anything you'd suggest watching for after install? i currently have my Hellwig set on the center 'medium' mounting hole. i wonder how the bar will play with the rest of my setup. really curious to get this going. I'm lucky to have a serious Porsche setup guy help me with all that. I'm perfectly dialed in right now, figuring we may have another round of experimenting coming.
