Agreed but also Tahoe is shit with people management. They always end up with a fuck ton of people up there for July 4 and NYE, cater to big resorts that are pushing to have more and more people up there, don't resource the popular places with enough people or equipment to handle the crowds, and then they are surprised when this happens? Get your shit together Tahoe.

That may be true, but not bringing garbage bags and leaving your trash on the ground (or, worse, in the water) is a fucktard move.

idk. All those people came to see the fireworks and just got up and left what they brought. Most of it at least.

Cities shouldn't have to bring in crews to clean up the mess. Just as those who go to places like the hot springs or Alabama Hills should pick up after themselves but don't. Look what's happening. Maybe next year, the beaches are closed?

StayLocal.Tahoe and others mobilized an army to cleanup that horrible mess on the 5th. Everyone wants to blame the tourists and I'm sure there is some truth to that just as residents going to the beaches have some responsibility too.

Expecting taxpayers to mobilize and cleanup after large crowds? Maybe provide extra dumpsters but the onus is on those who visit to pick-up after themselves. And for what it's worth, extra dumpsters don't seem to have been needed as people just left their crap where ever they were.

I agree, but assuming people will clean up after themselves is a lost cause. Tahoe could charge people more to enter beach areas during the holidays. Use the extra money to have more temporary trash receptacles. Enforce laws on public drinking and intoxication, etc. There are many ways to handle large crowds. I'm not a Burner, but that's a great example of how you can have a huge party that doesn't trash an area with proper planning and crowd management. It takes work and it's not free, but it can be done.

    Or yeah, shut it down.

The burners are huge slobs. Every year, they leave massive amounts of trash. A lot of which ends up against the fence. Art cars, the debris from the burn, all that has to cleaned up and it takes weeks. I wouldn't call it a great example by any stretch, sure, it's cleaned up but all that stuff came from somewhere else.

I'm admittedly going off second hand experience. My FIL worked for the BLM DC office for years, used to and continues to attend Burning Man, and always talks about how good of a job they do at cleaning up after the event. I believe the trash fence is there by design, to catch the debris, and the Burners build in that post-event clean up into their plan and budget. BLM inspects their clean up afterward and if they fail, they lose the site, so there's motivation to clean it up.

Ultimately it's cleaned up by the participants and the organization responsible for hosting those people, which was my point. If you want to host tens of thousands of people, figure out how you're going to clean up. I hosted 15 people this weekend for a BBQ and still had to clean up after they left, even though they were all super respectful and helpful guests!

If Tahoe banned alcohol on beaches the week of the 4th, similar to the alcohol bans on the American River, it would solve the problem off young people trashing our beaches.

The participants are asked to take their shit and many do. But I'm guessing since it takes weeks to clean up afterward, it's not participants doing the work on the playa. The worst part is people often camp on their way out of the area leaving piles of crap in places like Reno and Tahoe. Near car washes or free places to camp. No one escapes burning man.

The same is true for many of these large multi-day festivals. Coachella and Cali Roots.

In Truckee and you can always tell when the Burners rolled through because there are piles of dusty garbage everywhere. They dont clean up after themselves they just litter somewhere else.

Now back to the fuckery we all came here for:

A group and I made it up Blackwood Canyon on Sunday almost to the top. Spent the day cutting down trees off the trail, shoveling snowbanks and generally having a good time. I was lame and didn't get any photos but the group I led did a good job documenting.

Not a bad deal. At 22,000 BTU it's double the BTU of a normal Coleman stove. Should be much better at high altitude.

Even at 10,000 BTU, our Coleman Propane stove has always worked in the cold. Not sub zero, but definitely below freezing.
