On my 2000 tacoma V6 w/manual transmission, the stick shift shakes at 65 mph, and gets worst when hitting a crack on the pavement, replacing center bearing and Ujoints of the drive shaft did not make it better....transmission mount is still in shape.
a friend of mine said that it is normal, but I still think that it is not.
should I worry about it?let me know
here is a short video of it

You need to replace the bushing/seat for the gear shifter. Some of the manual trans guys can give some more input. @Speedytech7 would have more knowledge about it.

Mine shakes when off-road on really bad corrugations and when I take ruts too fast :spy:

Onroad mine is smooth. So that appears a little abnormal.

Still not as bad as a JK lol

I've done a mod or two
There are three causes of shaking, first the whole drivetrain is rubber mounted (unless you already changed that) so the whole thing will move and thus the stick will too of and on road. Second, the body of the truck moves on the frame so it will make it seem as if the stick is moving. Lastly the shifter bushings can be going out which I have plenty if pictures of if you'd like them and you can replace the shifter bushings with Delrin and that will solve that issue as well as any difficulty engaging gears.

Are the delrin shifter bushings you speak of OEM or after-market??

Entirely aftermarket, awesome product though. The OEM seat is designed from the point of view of reducing costs and vibration felt in the stick. But the stick itself is already rubber isolated so there isn't much point in having the seat be a wear item in my mind.

I just installed both the shifter bushing and shifter seat this afternoon and can confirm, it makes a big difference. It was getting difficult to go into 4th gear for me and there was some play in the shifter when engaged (not as bad as in your video but definitely there) and now the truck shifts more smoothly and there's almost no movement whatsoever when in gear.

What did your socket / bushing at the end of the shift lever look like before replacing it? Take any pics?

I forgot to take pictures :frusty: but the bushing and socket actually both looked to be in pretty decent shape, which surprised me, except that the bushing was made from really flimsy rubber (it was blue, not sure if it was OEM or not) and it was two pieces - the bushing itself and a separate rubber gasket. The new delrin one looks to be much more durable.

The previous owner of my truck had a short shift kit installed and whoever installed it didn't do it correctly, leaving the shifter sticking too far into the transmission so the bushing ground away and it began to hit metal on metal. I thought I needed a newer transmission and after buying one and swapping the shifter into my current transmission I realized it was all the shifter - shifting into each gear was easy once I swapped levers. Oh well, at least I got a good deal on the trans and the motor from the same truck. lol

You can see how the top bushing is worn off and the metal sticks out at the end:

This is what the metal was rubbing on in the transmission:

 wow, that's insane! I didn't even know it was possible to install the shifter too far into the transmission... does that have to do with the short throw kit?

Yeah they botched the install somehow - I haven't had a chance to tear it apart and figure out how they messed it up yet.

No, I've only had a 5 speed in both my trucks so I never really looked into it - I wouldn't be surprised if you called Marlin and they may have an answer for you though - them or URD or LCE!

Anybody live close to Marlin Crawler and want to ship me the seat and socket for my truck? They claim it’s a minimum price on all shipments even if it’s a few oz’s so I’m not spending 10$ to get shipped to Alabama.

On my 95 auto...it shakes when I go over a bump and your hear the plastic knob shake also. Is there any fix for that with the automatic?
