Hey everyone, just bought a 2000 TRD Tacoma with 5100 blistein shocks and 33 inch 12.5 Goodyear wrangler with I believe 15 inch rims. I just took it camping this weekend and obviously it's a truck so highway driving in it is whatever ( I've had a 99 outback for years so I'm comparing ride comfort to that) and I was noticing the stick shift shakes a lot in high 4th gear and 5th. I don't know if it's bad for it but I wanna fix it if it's bad. Tha ks

Driveshaft vibrations often happen at highway speeds. If you can get the same vibrations redlining in third and coasting in neutral at those speeds it might be more speed related than having to do with what gear you're in. If the vibration goes away then maybe the trans, but usually driveshaft, unbalanced tires, or wheel bearings cause vibrations and you're not mentioning any specific symptoms of the latter two.

Ok...and this seller had wheel bearings done when we threw on the lift and tires and suspension. So in your eyes would you start with a simple balance and re mount of tires? What about road force balancing?20170427_195909.jpg

I'd be inspecting the transmission mounts.

Front tire balance is usually felt in the steering wheel, rear tire balance in your seat.

Road Force is wonderful if the tech knows how to do it right, and a waste of $ if not.

I do get a shimmy on the wheel at 63-75ish mph but the stick shift shaking is really what I am wondering about. Thanks for the help...I will be checking on these things today after work. Not used to having a 4x4 truck again.

    Thanks again
    Steve

Get used to it lol. You're on 12.5s. The stick shaking a bit is normal.

Can you post a video of the shifter shake ?
There is a post on Tacoma World with the same complaint and a video to show how bad it was shaking .
Most guys say its normal for the Tacoma but a video would eliminate the not normal / normal condition

I figured the shaking is common for the tires...didn't know what too much shake was. And yes I've heard other complaints about the shifter shake but it just seams 'out of control shakey'. But at the same time it wouldnt surprise me if that was totally normal. The shifter shakes the most when a load is on it....lowwe rpm in 5th gear and even 4. But I know this isn't my Subaru outback driving anymore so it's not gonna be soft and smooth.
