Still a rough ride with 2.5s? Does tire load range affect that much?

That's super interesting to me. And tempting. But at this point I only have a 2 inch lift, so I'm not sure I'd be able to stuff a 285 without some serious chopping. I'm currently leaning towards a C-rated 275/70R17.

    Tread Depot has one listed:

^Annoyingly, the tire construction is all molded on the sidewall, but no other mfr puts the info online. To make matters more confusing, some mfrs like Hankook shows the ply rating of the tire instead of the actual number of plies.

Not THAT much. I don't use it on trails only for transportation and essentially use the dual sport for a means of transportation once the rig and RTT are set up - for extended stay trips.

Thanks, I guess I should've been more specific, sticking out as in beyond the sides of your truck.? Like if you're looking at it from behind.

yep, they use to. I got the run around several years ago from Goodyear on number of plies in Duratracs. I sent them an email and they replied with some sales mumbo jumbo. I replied back that I was just interested in construction specs and got some BS answer. Something about Duratracs being designed for the utility industry and their 2 ply sidewalls were just as strong as others 3 ply.

Actually P rateds do just fine in Moab for most of the trails as you don't have the sharp rocks and such...broke the 40 one year and wheeled the Tundra around and it did just fine. Most of my sidewall issues from wheeling Rubicon type stuff have been from tree roots. BFG MT's, ripped several sidewalls over the years, all on roots! Do quite a bit of off pavement stuff with my work truck running P rated tires with no real issues. For a dedicated wheeler, the stiffer tires would be best, but for a rig that is mainly street driven I would either vote for softer tires, or do like some of the Baja group do and have 2 sets of tires and wheels....normal ones and a dedicated set for trips offroad (we usually go for a week or two so swapping tires is worth the time). Just my 2 cents worth...

Another good point I ended up getting E loads - I use a car for commuting and not the truck. And really the rough ride didn't bother me until I felt other rigs with similar set ups (except tire ratings) riding completely different, in a better way. The air pressure drop did help a little! I will likely go back to a D-rated tire along with shock valving when the time comes.
