Brand new 2023. Left and got rained on and didn't notice the crazy etching left by the rain/sun on a black truck and how bad it was until 3 weeks later. Used some vinegar. No avail. Used chemical guys water spots remover but hesitant to use it on the whole truck since it's basically brand new. Just going to say fuck it and take care of the big ones and say it's a truck. It's going to get rained on again and I won't be able to wipe it down everytime like on trails and what not. Any advice?

Plus it's a black Toyota. That clearcoat on the hood and roof will be gone in a couple years anyways lol

I'm not thrilled with chemical guys stuff at all. The cleaner for interior and glass is junk and the micro fiber towels aren't great either.

The secret to owning a black vehicle is to embrace the fact that it always looks better dirty.

Where do you live with that much of “acid rain”? Or did you park next to lawn sprinklers or rise your truck off with hose/tap hard H2O?

Some people on this forum like to flaunt the scratches and pin stripes. "Its a truck" "just shows i actually use it" Thats all well and good but theres nothin wrong with taking care of the paint work, doesnt make you any less of a "truck owner".

    Enjoy that black paint.

I had some hard water spots on my windows and windshield. Meguiares med cut cleaner took those right out. I’m planning on using it to get some trail scratches out this weekend.

Yeah Everytime I come back out to my truck it has a new scratch or scuff even if I didn't drive it. Went on vacation and it rained a lot and water just sat on it and dried in 105 degrees

My MGM came with a few free scratches right from The dealership, nothing crazy but I noticed them while admiring the truck. I will address them when I get the time but since they aren't hurting anything long term I am not concerned. Nothing stays perfect forever so now I won't stress if a random scratch appears somewhere else

Trying to take that approach just hard when dropping $36k on something. But when I get back to the mountains this thing is going to be USED hard so I need to learn to let it go.

I respect your opinion but personally I've had favorably results with their products. And yes, Toyota paint delamination is a thing. I will say Cement seems to be a color that hides dirt and imperfections.

You might want to consider doing a ceramic coat on it. Will definitely make it easier to wash.

+1 on the ceramic coating. Fantastic stuff and not expensive if you apply yourself. Make you you prep the paint beforehand.

full "self healing" PPF (paint protection film?) might be a good option too. It's holding up great on my buddy's new bronco, and he uses that thing a lot. He recently sent some pics of a serious redneck carwash and no one could believe he'd take his new rig through it. Even that didn't hurt the PPF. It is less than a year old now, so I have no idea how long that stuff lasts. But I will really consider it if/when I ever buy a NEW truck.

my '22 had scratches on at the dealer and shortly after. this paint seems very soft and easy to scratch and chip. mine aren't too bad and i just left them as-is and moved on from it.

the thing that pi$$ed me off are the chips at the rear fender well wraps. i had factory mud flaps installed and the rocks still chipped them bad. i do not do any off roading other than an occasional forest service road.

unless you are someone that always likes a very clean and shiny truck (nothing wrong with that), i suggest you do the same and move on from it.

I love black. Even scratched up black looks cooler than any and everything else.

Ahhh the joys of owning a black truck, my old F250 was black, said never again. Taco is MGM which isn’t much better, I’m a slow learner….
