My truck was one of the trucks that had severe hesitation issues when accelerating before the last TSB update. I posted a few vids of it a while back and posted here, you may remember that. I was told back then that the issues with the hesitation stemmed from barometer sensor. Once they did the update the hesitation went away, however I still do have issues when accelerating. At times it will feel like the pickup is running on 3 cylinders or maybe misfiring. Sometimes I will step on the gas to the floor and the truck will sit there and still idle and after a few seconds then it will take off. I noticed that this does this more around when the weather is changing. So I am wondering if anybody has this issue and if anybody knows anything about it. As usual when I take it in, they have no clue. I'm loosing my faith in this truck. It's dangerous when you step on the gas and it's doesn't move or it's got about half the power it should at times.

Have you got your CPS (crank position sensor) checked out? This is a common issue with hesitation on the throttle

After that gets checked out. OVTune would be the best thing you could get for the truck

I know your pain and sadly, I don't think there's anything Toyota's going to do to fix it...

See this post for more info on your symptoms: 2019 shudder/miss

I just got OV Tune but have yet to drive tuned during the winter (when most of my hesitations happen), so we'll see here in a couple of months if OV takes care of that.

I guess I don't under stand how this OV tune is going to correct a sensor issue that acts up when the weather changes? Doesn't OV tune change shift points? Sometimes I can floor the truck and it will just sit there. Nothing happens. How is changing shift points going to fix that?

The fuel consumption tables are changed so technically your truck should “run” more efficient and optimized for the specified octane of fuel.

If the problem is indeed your CPS then it’s a $100/30 min change ...or a TSB that a dealer will perform...if they are willing

There is also a tsb out for high elevation issues.

When did that come out. I had one updated about a year ago. I check back in monthly to make sure I don't miss one.

Pretty sure it was last year to address the stumble feeling. You may have gotten it.

Maybe that would help but it's a little nerve racking to think I need to put an additive on a two year old truck with 30k miles. They need to fix their shit.

Unhook the battery for about 20 minutes. From what I remember reading about it, a lot of trucks reverted to the computer learning.

My truck has done this since it had about 750 miles on it regardless of the octane or ethanol content. One truck I test drove did it so bad, I thought it had water in the gas or had something wrong with it. I had the TSB performed and it was slightly improved for about 1000 miles, then it progressively returned to the original state (presumable through the learning software). My truck is a manual, so there is no torque converter confounding the issue - the stuttering/surging/missing is felt "directly".

I bit the bullet and got the OV Tune, which totally tansformed the way the truck drives and the mileage increase has been significant. I still have minor surging/missing when the engine is cold, but it is 75% better after thousands of miles. For the life of me, I don't know what Toyota was thinking when they tuned this engine in this truck. I understand that tuning is a compromise between driveability, emissions, reliability, etc., but this is ridiculous on a modern engine. I have hope that future versions of the OV Tunes will eliminate the issue altogether.
