That TSB is not "high elevation nor high altitude".

But after my '17 stumbled 3 times trying to cross Federal, I got my dealer, Pueblo Toyota to perform the 00-62-18 TSB and it is a different driving truck since.

That's how mine drives, too. I find my Tacoma's hesitation is worst between 45 and 60 MPH.

We can blame the transmission calibration, stock under-gearing, low engine torque, etc.; take your pick.

Ultimately, this is how Toyota designed it to drive to achieve the MPG numbers it wanted to get.

Mine stumbles bad at 1500rpm. I’ve taken it in multiple times, been told it’s “normal” - and to never upshift my truck before 3k (roll eyes)

I as well have decided to get OVtune just to try and get this 35k shit machine to drive right. Fingers crossed

I had TSB 0062-18 performed on my truck at my 5k service. It definitely improved, reverted back slightly it seemed (maybe it was just placebo from reading people bitching), but its been running great for the 20k miles since.

My truck has done this since it had about 750 miles on it regardless of the octane or ethanol content. One truck I test drove did it so bad, I thought it had water in the gas or had something wrong with it. I had the TSB performed and it was slightly improved for about 1000 miles, then it progressively returned to the original state (presumable through the learning software). My truck is a manual, so there is no torque converter confounding the issue - the stuttering/surging/missing is felt "directly".

I bit the bullet and got the OV Tune, which totally tansformed the way the truck drives and the mileage increase has been significant. I still have minor surging/missing when the engine is cold, but it is 75% better after thousands of miles. For the life of me, I don't know what Toyota was thinking when they tuned this engine in this truck. I understand that tuning is a compromise between driveability, emissions, reliability, etc., but this is ridiculous on a modern engine. I have hope that future versions of the OV Tunes will eliminate the issue altogether.

The OP's truck sounds VERY similar to mine. Nothing solved this shit even close to entirely, and I mean nothing (I tried all the options). Get used to disconnecting and connecting your battery every 500 miles and running Premium in it if you plan on keeping it.

What I don't understand is the wild variation in peoples responses to these posts regarding the hesitation. Some state their truck runs perfectly - Do they or are some people less sensitive? Is there really that much variability in the way these trucks behave? Not to mention the wildly different fuel economy posted. Before I went with the OV Tune, in mixed driving I was getting at or below the city mileage rating and I drive fairly conservatively in this truck (it's much better now).

I think there has GOT to be wild variations in quality control when these trucks leave the factory.

Please read the very first post on this thread before responding.

I learned today that there is a fuel pump recall for 18'-19's. Mine is a 17' but I'm wondering if that's what my problem is. I had in the shop for 2 days and they did all kinds of tests and then told me it was fine after initially telling me that there was a major problem with it they just didn't know what. They kept checking the transmission and I kept telling them I thought it had some thing to do with the motor. Once the dealer told me to kick rocks I opened a case with Toyota and am now waiting for their covid travel restrictions to be lifted. Funny how on top of things they are when your trying to buy one but I've been stuck with this shit for months.

Anyone had this recall done? Did you have the same issue I had? Is it better?

    Thanks?
