I don't think anyone wants a Slate not even any love in the EV thread over on the Tundra site. I don't think it's ever going on sale and it will probably break on day one, and won't be repairable slate would have to buy trucks from cavanamax to put the customer in a loaner.

They're very similar, but have a few differences. When I was going through the "build" and "compare trims" sections on the Toyota website to compare them, once the upgrade pkg was added they had pretty much the same features. Differences I remember included better (higher) front clearance, beefier tires, the larger instrument cluster display, and about $2-3k less for the Prerunner. The RWD + rear locker combo for general (non-extreme) off roading should be absolutely fine for our purposes---- no plans to tackle giant boulders, etc. As mentioned before, if winter weather concerns would have been a factor, I'd have gone w/ the 4wd for sure and considered the extra $$ spent well worth it. So far it's been a great truck.

I left out or forgot the other Prerunner features all of which I like. I was talking about what else could be added. I think I built a Prerunner and SR5 and probably didn't add the upgrade package to either I might have left something out.

I have a third gen AC 4 x 4. I certainly wouldn’t ever wanna go back to the extra cab after having an access cab. I found somebody who wanted the seats and we swapped the access cab interior trim and I have a flat panel now in a TRD off-road. Someday I’ll build an enclosure for stuff that I can lock away, but as it feels now there’s a lot more room. If I need to, I can get some tool bags in the back for when I do wood turning at the shop and I don’t want stuff sliding around in the back.

It seems like the gen 4 Extra cab storage space is much smaller than the gen 3.

Pic of gen 4 SR with the seat in the rear position. There is no floor space, except for maybe a cell phone or similar. The luggage space is also much smaller.

Pic of the gen 3 with the seat in the rear position. Lot’s floor space and much more luggage space.

Driving the Gen 3 the seat will be two clicks forward. So, there will be more usable space than is depicted in the photo.
Gen 4 feels cramped with the seat all the way back.

I was looking for SR5's. I'd forego my 6MT for an SR5 XtraCab 4X4 with upgrade package (for the brake controller) and heated seats (especially now that I can get 5100's for it). I might even add a chrome roll bar and KC lights just to solidify the need for a Member's Only jacket... ;)

There are a bunch of SRs XtraCabs inbound too, but most seem to be 2WD. I didn't pay that much attention because I need the extra tow capacity to pull my GeoPro.

That's all the space I need behind the seat. It's not wife approved though...

    Indeed.

I’m sure it will be perfect for many.

    It’s still the one.

I know the exterminator trucks are Rwd but I didn't want to start another thread.

I saw one this morning, and I'm thinking could they use stronger rear leaf springs? 2 & 3Gs would also squat once loaded and with a cap so nothing new there. I would think with the milage those trucks do in one day they would also benefit from the higher output engine with increased cooling.
