This is my last call for help. I bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport, 4 door, long bed 6 months ago. It has a 2 inch lift and oversize tires (285 70/R17). Since shortly after buying I noticed a shudder when driving easy at 40 to 50 mph, not while accelerating. It was probably there from day one.
I have taken it back to the Toyota dealer 4 times. NO RESULTS. I have the extended warranty and they are ignoring me or playing dumb or maybe they are dumb. I have also taken it to a private garage that specializes in Japanese cars. They acknowledge the shudder but can't figure it out either. The truck is beautiful but it bothers me every time I drive it. The tires are new and have been balanced twice and I have had 2 wheel alignments in the past 6 months. Any ideas???

Hate to tell you this, but this is a normal characteristic for the truck...

Does the shudder change if you’re in 4wd?
Anyone checked driveline angles for you?

Yeah, does it go away while in 4wd? Have you rotated tires front to back to see if any difference is made?

Same truck, same year. Also 2" lift no vibs or as you call shudder. I'm on factory tire yet. But will be going to 265/70/17 shortly.

I putting my money on your tire/balance.
What tire in on your truck?

Most likely the torque converter. There are articles that discuss a loose tolerance at a shaft seal that lets fluid by and causes a shudder.

Does it go away If you leave the foot off of the accelerator and apply again?

I would look at two things that you know are not original equipment. The 2 inch lift kit and the larger tires. Your tacoma didn't come from the factory with a shudder, that much I can tell you. The lift kit that was installed has altered the engineering characteristics of the drive train. If the lift kit wasn't installed correctly and the rear pinion angle matched to the transmission angle you can develop a shudder. Add bigger tires and you further alter the angle. I have experienced this on many trucks over the years. Take your truck to a 4WD shop that installs lift kits for a living and have them check your rear pinion angle. Please take a look at the link below or search google for the article.

What lift kit you put on? Install the drive shaft carrier bearing shims?

Can you describe the shudder a little better? Ecgs bearing can make a vibration sound.

Drive in a straight line until you hear the vibration/shudder then put it in 4hi and see if it goes away. If so its the needle bearing

Put it in ECT. See if it still shudders.

A buddy of mine had similar issues at the same speeds on his 2019 trd or...brought it to the dealer and was told its normal for that trim. Imo, i've ridden in that truck and it was so minor it wasn't worth getting pissed about, but it was one of the gremlins his truck had that drove him to the new nissan.

Again, this. Some shops that do lift kits do them cheap, and dealers are no help. Find another shop. I personally use one that builds KOH buggies.

I had to install the ECGS bushing after I installed my 2" lift for the front driver CVshaft vibe.
I had to install rear leaf shims to correct the shudder on braking/deceleration, caused by the forward weight shift that made the drive shaft/pinion angle too sharp.

Welcome to the headache of a lifted vehicle.
