Need some help with my 1996 Tacoma 4x4 with manual locking hubs. I just replaced my front wheel bearings. I used a 20 ton press and when I got it all back together there is still some play from moving the wheel up and down. How much if any play should there be?

    Thanks for any help.

Is the movement in the wheel bearing or the balljoints?

Loose wheel bearings have a distinct sound when you hit the tire.

Also the axle will shift up and down when checking for play, separate from the knuckle.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
If the bearing was pressed in with the old hub it could be the hub was nicked by a cut off wheel when the old bearing race was split..

Bad ball joints can cause some play in the wheels

As your post implies,,your grabbing the hub mounted wheel and tire on each side at the top and can pull up, and then let it fall on its own weight and there is play??. If that's the case,,there shouldn't be any play with new bearings. It shouldn't move up and down at all. I think your problem might be somewhere else.
