Flabby? Lazy? As opposed to having all our money sit on GME and do nothing?

idk about this time but this will magically happen on a big scale at some point and magically be fixed very easily followed by boasting about the security of crypto. something marketing or some shit idk

i think even greater than both of those is that those jobs(like most) probably kinda suck for the money and a couple months off made a lot of people realize it. Anecdotal on no experience but i'm gonna guess that industry was also probably boomin for a while when the war on drugs, cold war shit, and cash usage were more in swing and had lotsa them makin side money. If so it'd all be due for a downswing at some point anyway and maybe this is it

A very interesting article and one I can relate to. I work in the field of digital control systems and the hardware and software validation and testing is very thorough. I can’t imagine a Windows machine running some of the critical functions I have to deal with, interface to yes, but the actual control processors and application software platforms that control plant equipment are dedicated, well tested and proven. The airline industry does the same thing, and to a lesser extent (as evident by programming errors identified on occasion) the auto industry does it as well.

I mean it makes sense. If it ain't broke (and less likely to break) why go through the expense in both money and incredible amounts of time to create new systems. The only thing that could push that would be supply, as evident right now. We may see some changes, we may not.

Yes, staying pat with what works, works for awhile. The strategy has it limits. Reference: Kodak, IBM, US Steel….

Industry does upgrade control processors and control equipment, it’s just on a slower time scale than say, your Intel or AMD new processor of the month club or Windows Bang 42.11 operating system. That’s a good thing for the most part since upgrading critical and well tested, proven obsolete equipment is expensive.

This is everything everywhere...from gas powered cars...to coal fired power plants...until the opportunity presents itself to force an alternative....the least expensive most productive route will be used...We should be working on Nuclear power NOW...nope...Japan is working on some really cool mini nuke power plants that can power like 30K homes for 10+ years...

    that's the thing...they're so small they're not a danger.
The tsunami issue was an OLD nuclear plant that needed upgrades/replacing...and never got done....cuz cheeper...
Oh and the fact they put the backup generators in the basement...ooops...flood takes out the power ANnnnnd your generators...
Those guys that ran the power wires to save the other cooling systems...bad ass...

A lot of work going into next generation small modular reactors (SMR’s, light water) and Advanced Nuclear Reactors (molten salts etc.) in the US and world wide. They utilize passive cooling so no power required which lead to the disaster in Japan with the tsunami and the old GE nukes. The NRC has certified one of the light water SMR designs already and that’s big news. A good friend of mine is working on one of these projects and another friend worked on another one of them:

I wonder at what point it will make it's comeback...there was a solid boom in the Dubyah days....gov't fronted the money for site investigations for new nuclear plants/reactors via grants. A lot of producers/utilities opted to take those funds and apply to build new reactors and/or new plants. VC Summer and Voglte were the first new nuclear reactors being built since the 70's. They shutdown VC summer, bankrupted toshiba, cause of cost overruns and schedule delays. The budget to build those things is insanely high because of all the quality control that happens. Everything literally needs to be certified, triple checked, etc...down to the bolts....
That beings said, there's still a group of folks looking to build SMRs here in the states. France uses a ton of 'em. Makes sense, tech is a lot safer, cheaper to build.
Problem is who wants to bite the bullet to build the first one. govt backing fell through on it several years ago...
that 3rd link suggests that maybe there's renewed interest at DOE...that's good.
