    Good conversation.

I've always based my thought on that the grid is not "back up able". Not sure if that's a word, but you get the point.

Demand goes up, fuel needs increase. Demands go down, fuel need decreases.

Oddly enough, I'm in the solar biz. My product is is in poor demand.

    Very interesting.

What's tomorrow looking like? Giving back my $40k in profits? Probably.

Love the thread. Keep it clean and have fun.

You might do ok investing in green energy as a whole. Look at how the auto industry is moving towards fuel efficiency, hybrid, full electric vehicles.

Wind turbines have options. For simplicity, we will just call mode 1 & 2. Mode 1 is 50% of rated capacity when there’s some wind, but not enough for full production. You probably figured out what mode 2 is by process of elimination. Now if there’s high winds, the turbines shut down so they don’t overspeed.

Power plants do have some wiggle room. 15 years ago, coal plants were base loaded (full production) all the time and gas turbines/combined cycle plants would cycle or move around with load demands. Coal isn’t cheap anymore and the scrubbers needed for emissions requirements makes coal not as desirable . Depending on NG pricing and the day ahead trading, the combined cycles are base loaded and coal has been taking mills off and sitting at the bottom. Combined cycles are also a lot more efficient when it comes to heat rate.

Another area people overlook is nuclear power. That comes with a lot of baggage though, and security and operation protocols make you want to put your balls in a vice and squeeze down. Mini nukes in the 500-650 MW range would be optimal out west. More densely populated areas would benefit from the typical 2-3000 MW nuke units.

You would do well out west with solar.

Interesting how you commented on power storage.

Many people wonder how power is made up when units trip offline. Transmission system operators have to maintain a certain amount of spinning and operating reserve.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_reserve

Even then, sometimes we have really bad days.

lake? I’m in Rhode Island

RI is south of the rain snow line that usually cuts across mass. Usually a lot less snow. And I’m right on the bay, inland up near burriville gets hit with snow but we’re usually pretty clean.

Will do, probably not when I'm at work but I'll get there later today.

    PS.

:bananadance::bananadance::bananadance: no way I'm not pulling out a few bucks sometime today.

Sometimes you think it feels good to stay in a little longer. But pulling out a little early is a safer strategy

I own it for the dividend, makes today a lot less exciting. I hope it crashes on vaccine failure so I can buy more.

Big day for me. Sold off my PLTR calls from last week for $2k profit. My moves for today:

    COTY 12/18 $5c
    PFE 12/18 $42c
PLTR 12/18 $17c (re-bought with profits from selling, just rolled it out farther)
    GE 1/15 $9c
    TLRY 1/15 $11c

Up 32% on the day with just the re-buys.

CHWY decided to nosedive for some reason, but I'm just holding shares so no worries there. CRSR also in a bit of a slump. Holding shares, no options.

JETS and TAN both up. Pondering leaps on ICLN and TAN

Solar is also very dependent on geographic location. Much better proposition where I live in NV where we get 280 days of sun a year vs Seattle WA where they might get 80 (or whatever)

Exited 1 of 2 of my STZ $180 NOV20 calls at open today. The profits paid for both my contracts with some leftover. The rebound on those was unreal this morning!
