trailing stop is “if the share drops a set amount from a peak, sell it”. So let’s say a trailing stop of 10 dollars is set. Stock goes up 50 bucks. Wonderful. Now it goes down 5. Oh oh. Not a big deal yet. It then goes back up 20. Wonderful. It now drops 11 - stop loss is triggered.

it can be done with $$$ amounts or % set - so if a stock drops X dollars or X % from any peak after rising, it triggers a sale.

People also need to look into how Vanguard's ownership structure differs from the others like Fidelity, Schwab, Blackrock. Everyone else has shareholders to answer to.

Silver tracks more with industrial applications than gold does.

But it will never go the way of blockbuster. If you can buy it low, it's a pretty safe investment. It's not likely to make you rich, just a slow and steady increase, unless you can convince a bunch of people to drive the share price up. Rich people with diversified portfolios will have a certain amount invested in rare metals to keep from having to camp on sidewalks. Now you're seeing this safe investment be shorted. Doubtful. They're trying to recover losses.

I have a 5% portfolio position in it. It and iCLN are my 'riskiest' long holds. I truly believe they're going to outperform over the next 20 years.

Another possibility is that the owners that lent their stocks to the hedgefunds are calling in their stocks. Hedgefunds, unable to afford them are liquefying what they can to prevent going Blockbuster themselves. A bunch of hedgefunds selling off their safe stocks would give the illusion of a shortsale, and in turn would bring in a bunch of people trying to capitalize and unfortunately the price increase would help them. The war wages on.

I am done with RH. I will not buy any new stocks with them.
I opened up an account with Fidelity on Friday night and spent all weekend getting familiar and setting up the views to my preference.

RH looks like my first Nintendo Gameboy compared to all the options and views that Fidelity has.

Have you used think or swim yet? There’s a browser version. I actually like the TD site more.

ps @RedWings44 you can do paper trading options on think or swim so you can learn stuff doing that.

We all start somewhere. I'm hoping to retire by 55 (from this job anyway). It's definitely eye opening when you do the numbers. Even if I don't end up taking over my own, it's nice to get the knowledge to help me navigate the waters.

I don’t see them as specialist personally

one thing you learn in finance is 9 times out of 10 an actively traded fund will perform worse than an passively traded one.

so why pay a premium for someone constantly messing with it and making slightly less returns than just leaving it alone

I see this first hand when I do my parents taxes every year and see the returns they have and all the trades their financial advisor makes.
Blows my mind I can just keep tossing my $$$ in 2 funds and never touch it and make double what he does actively....specialist my ass. If you made a loss in 2019 then you are doing something wrong cause that market was poppin baby.....he did.

I did the math and my retirement at 60 is set if I just up and stopped contributing today assuming 10%. It’s that bridge 50-60 that isn’t set yet but nearly there, again 10%. But this also assumes no giblets. If we have kids this whole plan goes kaput.

Think or swim is not, but they have a paper stocks thing that is a simulator.

sweet. I use the browser version but absolutely hate it compared to the TD website GUI. MAYBE when looking at charts it’s better in ToS but I just use yahoo :notsure: maybe the downloaded application is better too, but I really like TDs website itself.
