this^^^i use the paper trading when my balls arent big enough and just want to see how that pick would have played out if I would have actually made it lol.

I use the regular Think or Swim for charts and watching volume etc.
So robust there is so much you can do I haven’t even scratched the surface and have been using it for maybe 1.5 years

I second TD Ameritrade Think or Swim (paper trader)
You can literally do anything you can do with the regular think or swim software.

Read that post, and like always, continue to be mind boggled at how fucked this system allows people to get.

I’m trying to fathom shorting an obscene number of shares on iou, and just going “well, it’ll tank so I’ll never have to pay these”

a share is an ownership of a company, it’s supposed to be a certificate, a tracked numbered, unique thing. The fact that our speedy computer systems now allow you to ignore and not provide an actual, traceable “share” of the company is absolute horse shit.

I cannot wait to see this whole thing create a shit storm, but alas, it probably won’t because that’s how the market goes.

BABA is trading flat in HK right now. I think I'm more stoked for their earnings release Tuesday morning then I am for this whole GME thing. OK. Not really but if they kill it $300 is a real possibility. I'm holding.

Disclaimer: I've got a metric shit ton of BABA calls. lol

Correct. Though with high volatility equity shares, particularly a certain high profile one right now, I’d avoid any automation for selling. Won’t be surprised to see whiplash in coming days.

    Sort of.

It will be less fun IF this thing is worst case scenario, crashes a few major cogs in the financial system, and results in a massive market drop alongside fire and chaos as our institutions work out who gets paid how much by whom.

Equal parts fun and scary. And I'm trading with money I won't miss.

As long as the impending market apocalypse holds off until Tuesday I'm OK with it. I plan on closing a bunch of stuff by then.

It will be interesting to see what happens with GME. Covering may occur in mass or the shorts may keep holding. Looks like a lot of folks have left RH for other brokers so I'll be keeping a close eye on volume to price(VWAP). It's one of my favorite indicators.

Even as an older fart I’m still long view, and a shake out now should correct back to fundamentals in relatively quick timeframe of a year or two. I’ve been thru enough market drops that I guess I’m more sanguine than many. (I also say that money needed short term ought not to be in the market and subject to volatility- this is why as folks move to retirement age they need to restructure their investments to maintain enough volatility “immune” funds to carry them thru periods of market volatility)

It looks like most of the stock simulators require you to create accounts to use their regular brokerage account too. I can definitely see how that's convenient, however I haven't decided where I want to take my money assuming I ditch RH. Especially since I heard TD Ameritrade also placed limits on GME and others

As always, again, this is not financial advice nor am I qualified to give anyone financial advice.

That is the theory. In reality, the clearinghouse assumes counterparty risk, meaning the liability that either the buyer or seller won't perform in a transaction.

What MAY have led to the shutdown on Thursday was a or several clearinghouses and/or brokerages realizing their failure-to-deliver rates on GME were ticking upwards at a frightening rate and that combined with upward price pressure had legitimate potential to bankrupt enough major players to disassemble the market.

Aside: I'd like to take a moment to remind people that a billion is a thousand millions. A trillion is a thousand billions. If there are, say, 70mil legitimate shares of GME plus another, what the hell, say 40% of FTDs, call it around 100mil units. If the price goes to 1000, that's a 300 billion entity. At 3000, it's ~1 Trillion. You will recall that the US government receives in tax revenue between 3-4 trillion per year. That's a LOT of liability. These numbers, if they become non-theoretical, pose a HUGE risk to the system. Citadel, the hedge fund everyone talks about like Darth Vader, has about ~30 Billion in assets. Melvin Capital was small fry at around 12 Billion ish. A 4-digit GME share price makes them look tiny.

    This is VERY misleading
They only placed limits on NAKED trading.
There were no limits on Buying Calls, Selling Covered calls or Selling to Close, Buying shares, Selling shares, Buying puts...

You could not sell Naked Calls, Naked Puts...
And the margin requirement went to 100%
ALL of these would not affect the regular trader except maybe the margin but that's an understandable requirement and it happens all the time.

Oh it doesn't worry me for *me*. I won't get into the details, but I won't lose my house, I won't lose my job, and the net worth dip would be temporary and unrealized on paper only. I can sit around until it recovers. But I would argue the US populace has been through enough financial hell in the past 20 years.
