Well I messed up today. Held onto the AFRM call way too long since I couldn't be around my computer. Went green to red real fast. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

Yeah today was poop

 

I unloaded most of mine between 1.8 and 2 last week

 

Today included a nice three hour or so journey into repairing the refill valve for the toilet. It turns out the hardware was from 1954. It was taking about 20 minutes to fill the toilet after flushing. I was finally made aware of this as I never use this bathroom.

So first I disassembled the original to see if it was clogged and once I fixed it and reassembled it The pivot point for the float ball valve controller started sticking so it wouldn’t shut off anymore. OK time to replace.

this should be an easy shut off the water unscrew drop a new one and screw it back on have a nice day. Not when it’s a 1954 toilet.
They matched up brass with steel so of course that chemically fused. There was not enough slack in the solid fill line supplying the toilet (1) to undo it basically they lowered the toilet down onto it and screwed it in. So I had to hacksaw the supply line to get it loose enough to try to work the nut free on the fill valve. (2) But of course that was seized. I ended up having to hacksaw everything. (3) I even had to cut the retaining nut because I could not spin it.

The stuff was fused like it was welded.

I would have just gone and bought a new fucking toilet instead of screwing around with it for 3 hours.

Digging those purple nitrile gloves. That's what I keep around the house too. Got keyed into them years and years ago when I worked in hospitals

 

Good job!!! You have to get yourself a Dremel with a cut off wheel makes the job a lot easier and faster.

I have one...it was an impossible angle. I had like 1/4 inch to fit the hack saw. I’m sure I would’ve somehow set the house on fire as well

I love the gloves I use them for everything from cooking to oil changes. Not the same pair, I throw them away
I’m sure if I tried to replace the toilet the retaining bolts would break and since we’re on a slab ranch I don’t even know what that would entail. Nothing good ever comes of trying to repair anything here in the 1954 special.

 

Oh that looks like a ton of fun. Plumbing is one of the things I’ll gladly pay someone to do for me.
