    I've also been in some warehouses where I've seen the rack installs and noped the fuck right out until they put some more anchors in before I'd come do expansions or repair estimates. Never underestimate human laziness

    I didn't dig into it too much, but it is in a seismic zone, so depending on the height of the racking, I'd expect 6x8 or 8x8 footplates, two anchors per plate min. Should be plenty sturdy if installed, tested, and loaded properly.

    It's been a long time since I did this stuff, but common size for storing documents would be a bay taking two 40x48" pallets, total load not to exceed around 4800lbs across an 8' span

    Uprights can typically static hold 27k lbs if they're the common 3x3 uprights.

    Edit: Also anything over 6' needs to be anchored and permitted shelving wise. Somewhere in some boring government office in Chicago is the original rack permits. I'd love to see them if they surface at some point. Hopefully they weren't stored on site at a safe document storage facility...

    @kairo

    Taking out any suppression system is as easy as closing the main flow valve. Wonder what state the arson investigator is gonna find them in? lol

    No doubt. I guess the question is:

    Did the rack fail and disable the sprinkler system prior to the fire (or at the same time as the fire)?

    or

    Did the fire cause the racks to fail and disable the sprinkler system?

    or

    Flash frozen shut with liquid nitrogen...and THEN turn the heat down/off so it looks like a malfunction of climate control that ALSO sparked the blaze...simple ;)

    I was unaware the document warehouse lit itself back on fire after being extinguished. That's fishy

    I don't necessarily agree with people taking issue with the "fact" a shelf disabled sprinklers "oN dA cEiLiNg!!!" Since it's probable a shelf hit a pipe on the wall that went to the ceiling.

    Regardless, "secure document storage" should and likely did have multiple failsafe systems in place should any other one fail.

    Fishy fishy fishy fish. I wonder where, my fish... could be?
