Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
We have UPMC or Geisinger. Both utilize the same strategy, heavy on PAs.

I don’t go to the gatekeeper, that’s all those docs or the PA is. Just a middleman to send you to someone who actually knows how to treat you

Are they banking all this money because the seats are all already sold? There’s crazy shit going on in Boston with their flights over the last few days and it appears that a storm in Florida conveniently suddenly became to blame, even though flights were canceled before that. It looks like at this point the airlines back credit weather events as the reason for their delays and cancellations. In the past a three hour rain storm didn’t cause four days of delays. They still got like 30 cancellations this morning in Boston. https://www.boston.com/news/travel/2022/04/03/jetblue-boston-logan-airport-delays-april-3/

Primary care has its place, but I wouldnt bother with one in the traditional insurance system right now either.

I can call or text my PCP whenever I want during work hours. And I mean call *him*, not his front desk, not his computer phone menu, the physician himself, on the other end of my phone line. If I need something in person, it's a same day or next day appointment. They do labs and many generic meds in house, along with minor procedures like wound suturing etc.

It's actually amazing how well our system works when you use health insurance as actual insurance and pay for regular maintenance on your body like you do your car.

The issue for most people is being stuck in a gawdawful situation of a primary care practice paid by insurance. Thats a recipe for disaster, as we all know.

This is technically referred to as concierge medicine. Usually reserved for the top 1% of people using healthcare.

Hardly. I pay 140 a month for the whole family (me, wife, child). It's less than our electric bill.

Concierge used to be expensive. That's changing.

"What we have found is that consensus Wall Street strategists are a very reliable contrarian indicator. When they are telling you to dial down your equity exposure and increase your allocation to cash, that's actually net bullish. What we found is that when the bulk of evidence is telling you to be more cautious and defensive, probably all of that information is priced into the market and the market is more likely to surprise in the opposite direction," Subramanian said on Yahoo Finance Live.

So on that score, trash cash and maybe put $1,000 into GameStop and another $1,000 into a boring as all hell dividend-paying company (note: this is NOT investment advice). YOLO!

    Happy trading!

do you have to go to the doctors office often? i can count on one hand how many times i've been in the last 10 years

thats a lot of moolah wasted for not needing a doctor, but i can see how its beneficial if you go often

Not typically. The wife and I just do our annual physicals. Kid is a little more frequent, being a kid. There's well-child visits every 6 months plus the usual bumps and scrapes from learning about gravity and physics.

No it's not. $140x12 = $1680 a year. Most Americans spend $2400 a year eating out: https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/personal-finance/articles/americans-spend-an-average-of-2375-per-year-on-dining-and-takeout-6-tips-to-spend-less/#:~:text=The average household spends $198,average spend of $4,942 annually.

High quality healthcare is more important than dinners out.

If 10 years of this expenditure at $16,800 saves us one hospitalization each during that time with an OOP max cost of $6000, it has paid for itself on that alone. Not to mention days not missed at work, quality of life not missed due to being laid up sick, and decreased risk of lifelong health impacts due to early detection and management because we aren't avoiding care due to cost.

America has a priority problem with its spending. I don't.

Take a guess what % of that $2400 is spent on fast food? Yeah, health isn't a huge priority for the average American. lol

Tell me about it. I'm a physical therapist when I can be bothered to work. In the hospital setting. I see it every day.

Working in the back of the house has taught me a lot about how to manage your health in the US to avoid the crippling costs of advanced care.

One of the top tips is what I'm illustrating here: Buy a low-premium fucking high deductible health insurance plan and use it as *insurance*. Expect and plan to take care of your everyday health costs out of pocket. Leave the insurance for catastrophes - that's what it's supposed to be for anyway.

Edited to add: Also, exercise, don't smoke, don't drink to excess, and eat a mostly balanced diet.

Fix my back please; but I don't want to exercise, stretch daily, change my diet/lifestyle, or put in any effort.

    Thanks in advance!
