Funnily enough, when the wife and I were expecting our kid a couple years ago and the name subject came up, my only requirement was that people would be able to tell the kid's gender from his/her name even if they had never met the kid.

I am no friend of Brynn, Breckyn, Haydyn, Aidyn, Graysyn, Lyndyn, or Flynn.

I also lobbied successfully for us to not learn the gender until birth so as to make it impossible for anyone to attempt that other abomination of millenial pregnancy: The Gender Reveal (seriously? Get the fuck over yourselves please).

its a really dumb rule all in the name of the environment. But I’m sure there’s some big guy behind it making billions on DEF and other additives that are needed to replace the natural lubricants that diesel inherently possessed

and to think diesel is a by product.
Probably another reason…. Less production in the homeland reduces the supply of the parent product.

An additive of all things.

We’re in for the first ultrasound that will show it definitively and the technician is doing the reading on my wife with the monitor facing both my wife and her. The technician says would you like to know the gender? My wife says “well it’s a good thing I want to know because I can see it’s a girl and I know how to read ultrasounds… You might want to point the monitor at yourself when you’re doing this in case someone knows how to read ultrasounds and doesn’t want to know” The doctor was like “oh my God I never thought of that…”

 

We did. Luckily, we only ended up using one of them.

The strange thing for us was how shocked everyone was that we were remaining intentionally ignorant. "Oh my God, I could never do that. You're so brave!" was one quote.

Really lady? Brave? As though if the kid is one gender and we were hoping for the other we're going to try and return it for a refund?

If we were brave, everyone who was a parent before about 1980 must have been fucking heroic.

I had never considered that being willing to love your child regardless of his/her genital configuration was a radical idea.

We ended up with a girl, if anyone's wondering. She's a hoot.

This is false. Very few large ship engines run diesel, which is a middle distillate; most large ships run on what's called bunker fuel (or marine fuel), which is a very heavy fuel oil. They are vastly different fuels and the engines running one or the other would not easily convert.

You're on the right track about the Europeans having an effect on US diesel prices though, especially on the east coast. There are no diesel refiners out there so shipments are having to compete with the Europeans, who use a lot of diesel and are seeing a dearth of supply due to cutting off much of their Russian oil imports. Eventually Euro refiners will secure new crude supply lines and get their refineries back to pumping out lots of middle distillates, but until that happens US diesel will remain unreasonably high.

If you're familiar with the "crack spread" check out how disconnected nearly all middle distillates have become from the price of crude. Pretty amazing stuff.

 

Just give em both temporary serial numbers, to be replaced later.
