    I'm far from a machine learning expert, but if you give all the algorithms the same objective, I would expect their methods to become increasingly similar over time as they sort out high probabilities vs low probabilities.

    We're in a weird world. Some estimates say 60 to 80% of market transactions are algo based.

    Thinking about this stuff gets me thinking about other stuff:

    Blackrock's Aladdin is the big cheese of algo trading. There's another one I forget the name of off the top of my head, but it's used by a LOT of the hedge funds, just tweaked for their specific needs. Market Makers usually have their own in house algos.
