If inflation and oil both continue to climb it will just create a feedback loop. AKA hyper-inflation. Personally I think it's already here.

What doesn't compute for me is the Fed's seeming belief that an FFR 8% below CPI is going to slow inflation.

As an example, this adjustable rate HELOC I've been flogging lately - it's FFR +2.75, and they haven't even got the last .5 in yet, so it's sitting at 3%

Is that not truly -5.5%? And if so, why the hell wouldn't I deploy every dime and pay them back with worthless future-money?

FFR has to get to 7% before closing this thing down makes sense, and I have to think the whole economy would implode before we get rates that high.

We've never been here before. Interesting times suck.

We have been here before. But we are orders of magnitude above what happened in 80. The amount of QE the FED provided over the last 12 years is staggering. That can has been kicked WAY the hell down the road. Now we're about to hit the end of the road. The question in that end a brick wall or straw bails? If it's straw what manor of monetary police is gonna create it? With the current situation I can't think of one.

Read this and take a look at the date.

Calm down chicken little. The world ain't over yet.

I dispute this. Debt to GDP ratios were not nearly so elevated during previous periods of high inflation. Volcker did what he did because he *could*. I'm not sure the Fed *can* go above 10% right now without creating an economic black hole.

No, this is more like humanity going into the last ice age. This time with fire though.

And it is kinda cuban missile crisis two, electric boogaloo right now. Just not as overt, but the the birds are on standby keeping a watchful peeper over eastern Europe

The hole already there. It's just how far do we get sucked into it.

Volcker let inflation run because he believed in letting it run to curb inflation. It was his test and it worked. De-value the dollar. What we have now is the dollar doing very well against all other currencies even with inflation on the rise. Those two things should be acting opposite like they did in the 80's. They are not. Where will the ship head now. Uncharted waters.

Realistically what's going to happen in the next ten years is we go through and start to come out of a depression, not unlike the first one. You'll see mass relocation from increasingly uninhabitable areas in the SW to other areas across the country. There's going to be food and water shortages, but those with money will do ok. The rich will get richer, and the poor exponentially poorer.

Nobody will have learned a thing.

And I'll be rich af off in my boat fishing.
