Now there's a man who loved both a beer and a drastic rate hike when necessary.

The tricky thing about high rates now is the Federal debt.

60% of Fed Debt is in Treasury Notes with maturity between 2 and 10 years. There are 2, 3, 5, 7, and 10 year maturities. That's currently about 18 trillion in this category.

Say they go to 5% interest. That's an additional 900 billion in debt interest within 10 years after all the notes roll over. We spend 773 billion on defense right now, so that's more than another pentagon. The gov't took in 4.1 trillion in tax revenue total last year.

But the heat comes earlier than 10 years as the younger notes and T-bills roll over. Even a couple hundred billion in extra interest becomes very difficult to deal with as our graying population increases unfunded Medicare and Social Security costs which are non-discretionary spending and *must* be paid at the same time.

This looming fiscal crunch is why many people (And I am one) think the Fed has a low ceiling on how high it will be allowed to go with rates.

Or move to state like Louisiana where 500k gets you 2500sq ft and a whole acre or two

you'd hate this time of year. rain everyday for about 40 days straight. some days its only 10 min of rain during the hottest day.

nothing like walking outside after one of those 10 min downpours and smothering to death.

Also I do wonder where all this cash leaving the stock market is going. Bonds are down. T yields are up. REITs are down. Gold is flat. Commodities have been doing well but not well enough to hoover up 25% of the S+P 500.

Mattress cash? Consumption purchases? Hookers n Blow? What are they doin' with it?

Yeah. When I lived in the SouthWest everyone complained about the heat. I was like, "You little bitches, this isn't even a wet bulb!"

Having lived in both, the South East is definitely the more hostile of the two.

No one minds the heat. It's the humidity.

Yep, 102°F in Moab wasn't bad. I did a double take when I saw roofers installing terra cotta while wearing hoodies. My guess is that is how they worked in the shade.

When I first came out west everyone liked to comment, when it was over 100, "Well, it's a dry heat".

Yeah, so is my fucking oven.
