Technical recession by the old definition, but the ole NBER has yet to speak on it.

Considering inflation rates, market might actually see this as bullish.

 

-0.9% compared to .5% forecast. Yeah, that's a big miss for a big piece of economic data. Yet, the market is eerily calm. You know what they say about the calm before the storm.

 

Dollar continuing to strengthen, inflation higher overseas, shitload of imports due to supply chain constraints...

I think when you contextualize the miss and see employment, earnings, and consumption data you start to think these GDP numbers are just a math trick from changes in currency valuations and trade balances.

People who are in conviction about looming disaster positioned themselves months ago. Its all wait and see now - glass half full or half empty? Time will tell.
