Screw 'em. Batteries, electronics, shenanigans. I tried them, it was 100% not worth it. I just make a sputnik with one of these bad boys. I've used it for years, always will.

I DO have a laser one that's within a degree or two for cooling down milk when making yogurt, but otherwise, analog is my way in the kitchen. I have a digital scale but TBD how long that lasts.

And unless you run it once a year, you are no longer NIST traceable, calibrations are typically 1 year for thermal equipment. I have administered a NADCAP Thermal Processing audit of an aerospace plant... I've been there "

Holy shit I thought you were joking but they really did take a $400 million loss from retail theft. That’s An average of 200,000 per store because they have about 2000 stores… I guess maybe they could’ve use some of that 400 million to hire more security?

 

Security won't get involved. They'll watch and call the police, but they don't "stop" shoplifters. It's usually store/company policy not to actually intervene beyond "hey you". If they run, don't chase. It's emboldened theft a LOT.
