As a child of divorced parents myself, I'm only going to offer you one piece of advice. Never disparage your wife in front of your daughter.

My dad did in front of me all the time. My mother never spoke a bad word about him until I was 18 and asked her for her side of events. I talk to my mom almost every day. I haven't talked to my father in over a year. Just some food for thought.

 

good advice. my MIL is twice divorced, this time she is handling it different than the first, thankfully. my wife has lots of trust issues because MIL always put her and her sister in the middle of their problems. just an emotional shit show for my wife in the most crucial ages of life.

 

I was 8 when my parents divorced. At 14 I asked my mom why she and my dad divorced. She wouldn't tell me and told me to ask when I was 18 if I still wanted to know. The day turned 18 I asked. I got her side of events. Whatever respect I still had for my father at that time, which was already very little, evaporated into the ether.

Absolutely this was a roll of the die. They have missed the last 2 quarters and they've only missed 3 quarters in a row twice in their history. My die are slightly weighted on this roll. lol

Never. I am very attuned to what is best for my little girl, even when that means my wife (for now) receives better than she deserves.

In fact, I am baking some temporary post separation support into the sep agreement that I am not legally obligated to provide for the sole purpose of enabling my wife to rent a residence in a neighborhood I would be comfortable with my daughter staying with her in....rather than what she can afford on her own.

I had to drag my wife here to the marital home each night for the first two weeks to help settle kiddo to bed not because I wanted her around, but because its the best for my little girl. This practice continues nightly.

I will not lie to my daughter - one day, at an appropriate age (probably late teens at the earliest) she will hear the truth from me. My wife can answer to her then, because I will not speak for her.
