Nope, I’ve done all my crypto trading through brokers but I was looking at exchanges and wallets before I decided I was too uninformed to be playing in that pool.

But my point was I didn’t realize and had bought lots of 1 off 1 share purchases just to watch the stock (my watchlists have gotten out of control)

So now I have $7+ costs basis in $.0002 stocks lollllllll

Up until 2 weeks ago I'd never traded any crypto. I decided to buy Chainlink as an investment not a trade. If I'm correct about it's widespread adoption and what that could mean I'll be super stoked in 10 years. To me it's a very similar thing to where PayPal was circa 2000. We all know where PayPal is now.

Back to wallets and Exodus. Since Link is a long term play for me I was looking for wallets. Once I'm done acquiring the amount I want I will be putting it all in a hardware(cold) wallet. During my research for which one of those to use I stumbled on software(hot) wallets. Exodus is well reviewed and very secure so I downloaded it a few hours ago. In the past hour I've set it up on my desktop, laptop, and phone. I moved 3 Link for my broker(Gemini) to Exodus. It's really easy to figure out with the online support on Exodus's site.

What's interesting about Exodus is that you can do crypto to crypto trades in real time. I might take those 3 link and trade them for other cryptos that are trending up. Then trade those back to Link when it's trending down. Since there's no middle man(broker) all trades in Exodus are free.

 

How doth the taxman deal with such trades? There are supposed to be realized short term capital gains reported...allegedly...do they give you a tax statement or is it all self policing?

Since it's crypto to crypto you never change it back to USD would be my guess, Taxes are only payable on USD. So when you cash back out to USD is when you owe the taxes on realized gains.

holy shit....thats nuts...I bought in and out of btc twice now in the last few years....it still feels like the wild west and the tax side is murky...theres like a check box or something here in CA...i've mostly avoided it...but now ive got some and am wondering what to do with it. The above sounds like a great way to make a shit ton of money and hope the US doesn't get wind of it.... They're at least a couple years out before clamping down

Could just be a natural sell off cycle. That’s my feeling. That’s why I bought calls. I also already have shares. There’s nothing to do now but wait because the earnings are Tuesday before the bell.

 

BTC hit another high last night. Converted my REN to more ALGO. Loving the 6% apy

 

Morgan Stanley and Fidelity don’t seem to like trading frequently. I’ve gotten a trade violation warning from both accounts when I’ve sold shares and turned around and bought different shares with those funds. RH has never given me issue except for the warning when I bought and sold Nokia the same day. WeBull also prompted me that I could receive a violation when I tried selling shares and buying more BUT I was using their instant credit while my deposit was still pending. Haven’t had any issue since that cleared. As much as I hate RH, it’s the evil I know, so I may just let it ride

Are you a margin account? If not, it sounds like your free riding. Which is not permitted via SEC and Fed Reg's.

 

I only have a Morgan Stanley and a Fidelity because that is where my employers set up their employee stock purchasing programs so when those were opened it also opened an individual investment account for me where the dividends are paid, which is what I reinvested and received the warnings on

 

Did you buy a stock in the individual account then sell it and buy another stock within 2 days?
