You guys should try buying options on the Wells Fargo brokerage site sometime. It's some sort of bizarre cross between a newspaper, a sheet of graph paper, a telegraph line, and a dot matrix printer

 

Exactly....if stock is trading at $50 and you buy the $55 call for 1.00 it's $1x100 shares (always) and then you ONLY make money if before expiration the stock price is greater than contract price + strike price...so you would start making money at $56 or up...and if it goes to $60 your contract is worth $500....
Things to be aware of...there really aren't "bargains" you get to know a stock and the way contracts work. The more volatile a stock the more you pay for a contract....If it's a flat stock the options are almost worthless because there's almost zero chance they go in the money...
Also there are weekly options and monthly options...be careful around those. You want options with a lot of volume so you can get in and out without having to overpay or undersell...
All Options...Apply for LEVEL 2 options
It allows you to buy calls, buy puts, sell covered calls (you have 100 shares for each contract you sell)
You cannot sell anything naked...put/calls...

Big advantages are volatile stocks you can sell covered calls on and then buy back or allow to expire...
and of course gambling that calls will go in the money or puts will pay off on a dip.
The higher the stock price the more expensive the options contract will be because it has a bigger potential payoff...

 

Look at the wild swings on the $NVDA Jan 2024 monthly $500 call...If you can snag one of these when the stock is around $410 for $1800....and then ride it up and dump it for $5000 you're making $3k a month...BUT when you miss....you lose $1800...3x....like I did earlier this year...it just wouldn't recover until I wasn't holding calls

 

I played with options a bit. Now I'm back to boring. Maybe next year i can get back into playing around a bit, most of my stuff was biopharmaceuticals, wild swings to play with there.

Oh shit, I just found out you CAN click on it to select the option you want. But you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the chain to manually confirm your selection. Lol great system.

Welp it’s RSV season in our house

todler running fever for the last 2 days

Acts fine during the day then dinner time comes and she spikes a fever. Doc says 3-4 day is usually the worst days. She’s on day 3, can’t imagine it being worse tomorrow.

 

Went through my whole office about 3 weeks ago. I was down hard for a day and a half. Took about a week to get back to whatever my normal is.

Usually if I'm not feeling good, I'll still answer emails and pick up the phone if someone calls. That particular thursday, I just shut off my work phone and stayed in bed.

Took the wuhan test, came back negative. GF got it from me and hers came back negative as well. Our doc (we use the same primary care) said it could be a strain that isn't picked up by the older tests that we had at home, or it might just be a seasonal virus. Even when I had diagnosed flu in 2018, I was still fine working all day. Whatever went through our office laid a bunch of us out for a couple days. Was not an enjoyable week.

Edit: The guy who brought it in picked it up from his kid at school. This is why I have always maintained, and will continue to maintain a completely child-free stance in my life.

 

Kids are superspreaders for sure. Usually I catch whatever she has 10x worse and my wife barely gets a sniffle, this time I just have a little cough and wife is fine, but the kid is down bad. Doc says she has a little bit of pneumonia in her lungs and to monitor her. Hoping it doesn’t get worse.

 

Kid's can have a little pneumonia, as a treat.

Yea hopefully so, something I noticed with this virus is that she sleeps like a rock. Every other time she’s been sick and coughing up a lung she would barely sleep through the night because of coughing, but this time she coughs all day and sleeps at night.

ETA, she sleeps in our bed so usually when she’s coughing through the night, it’s right into my face. Which probably explains why I catch whatever it is 10x worse.

 

Have you considered providing the child some appropriate accommodations? Perhaps some sort of cage located in an area away from other humans? A garage perhaps?

 

Get an air purifier from Costco. It'll help shorten the duration of the illness.

It doesn't. I live at 5200 ft in the driest state in the country, and we run ours every time the aqi gets shitty. Air purifiers are just filters. They don't do anything that effects relative humidity.

 

Tried that, well, except it was an enclosed cage. And it was in the house. It was her own bedroom and the wife was too anxious to let her sleep 20 ft across the house by her self. We liked the house because “oh great the Master is across the house from the kids rooms! We won’t have to hear kids playing all night while we try to sleep!”
Jokes on me because now the third bedroom on that side the house is being considered to be turned into the master to be closer. Women.
