It's almost like they know the day I go long-term capital gains…
In truth, I took my position based on my belief they were hitting the bottom of a dip. Is there any coincidence that these dips always seem to happen at the same time of the year?

CPI 0.4% MoM with 0.3% Expected.
    3.2% YoY v 3.1% Expected.
    Core MoM 0.4% v 0.3% Expected.

    Why are futures exploding green?

Dig into the report a little and it is ALL shelter and transportation. The majority of the transportation component is air fare.

At this point, elevated interest rates are probably worsening housing costs and rate cuts might actually help in that area. Plane tickets are a luxury.

The broader economy is looking stellar with inflation now well controlled. It can't look much better out there by the numbers.

    :boom:

I mean, for some vacations, yes, but I'd be curious to see how many people are at airports for vacations instead of going somewhere as needed for business, family needs, colleges, work, etc.

Whenever I'm at an airport I pass by a gate going to Jamaica and everyone's happy, then I pass by a gate going to Bismark and everyone is NOT happy to be there. I wouldn't say as a broad sense "plane tickets are a luxury"

Trains, cars, buses, bicycles, feet, heelies, etc.

There are many other lower monetary cost ways to get to these places.

It ain't gonna matter beyond a day or two either way, but the rational move here is green.

In Europe, yes. The US has shafted public transport so much.

I have to get to San Diego in a couple weeks. My options are a 6.5 hour flight, 4 days of driving, 3 days by train/bus, or 12 days by bicycle.

    :notsure:

Paris to London, hell yeah give me the Eurostar. Boston to San Diego? Complain to your congresspeople about high speed rail development, because you're either flying or taking 17 greyhounds across 4 days to get there. There are some projects, but it's not going to happen overnight. Or by 2 weeks from now, when I have to get to San Diego.

Decreased time cost and increased convenience are exactly the hallmark of luxuries.

232 vs 237 for the same trip. I'd call that the same cost.

6.5 hour non stop direct flight vs 75 hours and 4 transfers.

I reiterate from my last post:

Paris to London, hell yeah give me the Eurostar. Boston to San Diego? Complain to your congresspeople about high speed rail development, because you're either flying or taking 17 greyhounds across 4 days to get there. I'm not arguing that it's good, I'm just arguing that it *is*.

    Economics doesn't take moral positions.

    YEah,
    But logistically...

ROME To PARIS is the same distance as Boston to Charlotte...

Paris to Moscow is Boston To Dallas

Paris to Astana, Kazakhstan is the same as Boston to West coast...

Business isn't really part of the discussion.

Ya'll snarkin', but airfare is not remotely a necessity and you're not going to see it act like one economically.
