Saw some statistics that airline travel is back to pre pandemic #'s and most of the ticker prices are right at march 2020 levels. Gut feeling that there could be some long-term money to be made there + diversifying my holdings.



Debating which
LUV has the 2.6% dividend as a little bonus, but DAL has a 5% higher profit margin and a 40 ish % higher ROE.

Purely on gut I think I'll pickup a combo of the two probably 50-50 split. AAL doesn't have much that convinces me to buy it over either of these two. This is part of learning yea? worst case I lose a couple thousand boo hoo

The idea seems to be something like basic economy for business class through removing the inclusions from a business class ticket—checked bags, seat selection, and lounge access—and offering them as add-ons to a lower, business class fare. The ticket would likely have stricter rules on cancellations and changes, too, and possibly not allow them altogether.

Far from being the only airline to be looking at making some pretty big changes.

Airlines also earn revenue by selling loyalty points to other partners, like hotels, car rental companies, lifestyle brands, and retailers. According to loyalty program analysts IdeaWorksCompany, the “15 top performing airlines disclosed a year-over-year frequent flyer program revenue gain of $8.3 billion for 2022.”

All this adds up to - in my opinion - don't invest in airlines.
