Hey you guys that know more than me...

what is a good percentage of your portfolio total, to keep cash on hand for unexpected buys, etc?

I’ve been buying in, every Friday and then have none left to buy until the next Friday. Not the most efficient system.
Or the best time to buy.

 

Kick the can down the road for someone else to deal with.

 

Taxation is theft anyway. We pay taxes here in KY on the value of our licensed vehicle every year when we renew tags. Complete bs.

Only thing they're doing is giving me about what they took out of just my Christmas bonus.

 

We filed quickly, but mostly to get money back to do the back yard... Wish I had the option to "play" with the money. But... investment in the looks of the home come first

 

I don't keep any of my play money as free cash on hand. For one - that is how RH makes money off you. I would assume this is the same for other brokerages who do not charge transaction fees as well. They gain interest on your unused balance. If I have any free cash in my account I dump it on a crypto while I wait out my next stonk move.

 

But if you invest it you can make more money for home upgrades

 

That makes sense.
I just connected my bank so I can move money in and out in less than 24 hours, so I suppose it’s a moot point.

First kid? In 3 years go on a cruise. They have GREAT kids clubs....Kids do all sorts of great stuff and you get to also enjoy your day...Some family days...some mommy daddy days

Yep, our first - we've already discussed all our family trips We will probably do a Disney cruise. We both love Disney. If it wasn't for the kid, we would've gone to Disney World last year as soon as they reopened. My wife has celiacs so it adds an extra layer of complexity to all of our travels. Disney does really good with food allergies so they are always on the top of her to-do list

Yeah I never went to any Disney things as a kid..
Made sure we brought my kid several times...That and universal. Probably 7 times total. Great memories.

 

I went as a kid, maybe at age 5-6ish and the only things I remember are being terrified of all the rides. The Jaws boat ride and the Terminator 4-D movie stand out as particularly scarring moments

My wife and I have been twice in the last 4 years and I loved it both times as an adult WAY more than as a kid. She wants to take the kid as soon as he becomes coherent enough to understand his surroundings but I'm trying to convince her we should wait until he's old enough to really enjoy it, like 10+, and maybe give ourselves a few more vacations without him first

 

what prompted that buy? Early volume?

 

For real...3+ is good enough for memories...Our joke was we have a picture of the kid sleeping in the disney stroller by a disney parade every day on one of the trips.

 

Cruises can also be handy for family reunions, particularly with out of town relatives. Simplifies the logistics of gatherings and meals quite a bit.
