One of my coworkers (recent college grad) discovered short term capital gains. He’s been crypto trading all last year and didn’t realize every exchange is realized capital gains. He’s going to pay an accountant because he had a LOT of taxable transactions

I have a feeling he won’t be alone in that. Lot of people jumped in not knowing exactly how it all worked

    That's how we roll :)
I shit you not...2020 TOTAL realized...I got rid of everything dead against gains...

    Adj gain ($) -818.03

    Adj gain (%) -0.70
That's with six figures of trades....
2021 is shaping up to be quite the opposite :)

    YTD= +33.94%

Posting prices today so I can see how bad these picks are.

$HRB - Tax prep is going to be a nightmare this year with all the people getting unemployment and not paying income tax...and rent issues and properties with no income...etc
    16.50+0.38 (+2.36%)
At close: January 15 4:00PM EST

$RBAC Red Ball Acquisition COrp... They are the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool football club are likely to go public through them....
    11.09-0.31 (-2.72%)
At close: January 15 4:00PM EST

$VET - Vermillion Energy - Canadian Oil company. Hold your buy to see what the Keystone Shutdown does to their shares, but they were trading at $15+ a year ago and paying a MONTHLY dividend of $0.18x12=$2.16/yr which was a 14.4% dividend. They suspended the dividend in 2020. When they bring it back it will probably 2x in price rapidly and grow from there.

    5.34-0.11 (-2.02%)
At close: January 15 4:00PM EST

$GERN - Geron Corp. Biotech. Rumor is that big hands are interested and it's got heavy short interest...that can lead to pop pop....
    1.6500-0.0450 (-2.65%)

The futures markets look remarkably calm considering upcoming US events. If this holds through open I might actually make back some coin I lost on Friday. lol

Me and the missus are starting to think pretty hard about moving up to the PNW (I'm a Seattle area native). Probably settle around Vancouver, WA across the river from Portland. Already got my boat picked out.

We were originally thinking way up north like Bellingham area, but the same house is $200k more up there. I think I can live with fishing the Columbia.

Not on that model. The hard top would be a compromise. I have no problem sitting out in the open in the rain all day. Missus at least needs to get out of the storm.

Maybe I can rig up some fancy curtains or something.

hard top is worth it if it can support a person lying on a towel in the sun...that would make a nice scuba boat too.

Oh yah, I grew up there. Many days of just grin and bear it hunting and fishing and camping in shit weather.

(I'll appreciate the shit out of the hard top, don't worry)

Plus that rig is tacoma tow-able, meaning I don't have to get a bigger truck. win/win

Have you seen the rain totals for the 20/21 season? It's off the charts. All the snow we normally get has been heading straight to OR/WA.

Nice! I haven't been diving in years. Need a refresher for sure before I inadvertently kill myself.

    It's nuts...

I went for a hike on Saturday. In January, at 6500', in shorts and a T-shirt, and if anything I was a bit warm.

Which means we'll probably get 4ft of snow in March.
