Hi, a newbe here. Been looking around the forum for answers to my questions and have found some info but not quite what I need.

My problem has to do with the drivetrain vibration several Tacoma owners are having. I have only a slight vibration under acceleration from a stop at around the normal 20 mph area. It’s very little and I can live with it. But I have a pop-up camper that I tow often and when going up steep hills limited to a 20 mph speed limit I’m getting a very bad vibration, more of a shudder, that shakes the whole truck. The last time I stopped, shifted the auto trans into 1st gear and crawled up the hill.

I know of the TSB-0008-14 and have talked to the dealer about it. But even after verifying the vibration, with camper in tow, he refuses to perform the tsb. His suggestion is to install air bags at my expense, to keep the truck from sagging so much when the camper is attached. He said that was causing the pinion to drive shaft angle to become to steep.

I called Toyota Customer Experience Center almost 3 weeks ago and talked to someone that had zero mechanical knowledge but they would notify my dealer advising to do the tsb on my truck. The dealer was to have 2 days to call me after they receive it. I have not heard from them.

Sorry this is so long, about finished!

My question: Has anybody here had a similar problem when towing and did the TSB and/or air bags help. And does anybody have contact information for Toyota other than the Customer Experience Center, they are of no help.

Stats: 2014 Tacoma SR5 4x4 4.0 v6 less than 10,000 miles. Completely stock. Camper weight about 2,300 lbs., tongue weight 344 lbs., about a 2” drop at hitch with camper hitched.

    Thanks, Brad

TSB states the issue occurs at 10% or less throttle / slow run up.... or greater than 30%

Have the main tech get in your truck. From a dead stop roll on rather quickly to Wide open throttle and i guarantee it will vibrate.

The reason why you experience it more when something is in tow is you have to apply more torque / throttle which amplifies the problem.... so simply do a wot from a stop run with them and be like look it has the issue now fix it. Also demand the firm ride leaf pack.

nd4spdbh, as stated above they have ridden with me withcamper in tow and acknowledged the vibration, with a “greater than 30%”throttle. They have not ridden or driven it without the camper. It was at thererecommendation that I bring the camper with me for them to verify thevibration. Will be calling or visiting them Monday, may end up going to adifferent dealer if it doesn’t go good.

yeah if all else fails just go to a different dealer.... unfortunately you will get vast differences in how they help you depending on the dealer.

    Hey 1993t100,

Did you ever figure this issue out? My 2009 TRD is doing the exact same thing! Very slight shimmy w/o trailer, heavy shake from 10-20mph acceleration with 2000Lb tow.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks
