Its fun to see the various mods people do with their 5 luggers, but does anyone here have a stock 5 lugger that is used as daily reliable transportation? Or am I the only one who appreciates the simplicity of the 5 luggers and has chosen to leave it stock?

Nah. Modding it makes the truck your own.

It's a slippery slope. I lived with my stock 2010, until early 2015. I think my only change was to the OEM stereo, which was a steaming pile of poo from day-1, anyway.

Mods are a result of the combination of needs, and wants. At that point of the mod-fest starting, the stock truck wasn't working for me as well, any longer. I had the budget, and wanted to make some needed changes. I didn't really want to sell the truck to upgrade trucks - when a few tweaks here and there would do.

It truly does make it your own -- once you get in deep with the modding - no one else is going to want to buy it! (good thing i have no plans to do so :) ).

Lmao @HackD Love the vehicle name. It's so true. "5 Lug SLUG" Still haven't regeared yet and I feel like I can't keep up with freeway traffic sometimes.

Fellow Maineiac checking in. With pretty much the exact same truck! It may not stay stock though since it needs an engine rebuild at some point. A quart of oil every 800 miles is getting old. 243k miles and counting!

Aside from occasionally running the wheels from my Mustang, my Tacoma is bone-stock all the way down to the factory radio. It even still has the original clutch with 223k miles.

But that may change soon. Finding parts for a step bed is not fun. Oh I forgot about the tail lights but those are going back stock. That was a quick fix to get out of a ticket.

I’ve never seen the stepside bed, it’s kinda kickass from a rarity point of view

it was given to me with a bad motor by my mom. She just wanted it out of our driveway. I had no clue it was hard to find even after I rebuilt the motor. To be honest this is the first Toyota I've ever owned. I fell in love with it too. I'm starting to see what people like about these trucks.

They're awesome trucks, and like pointed out above. The step side is a pretty rare option so enjoy it to the fullest.

Compared to the masses, mine is stock. Except for where it isn't.

But the changes are primarily cosmetic for my amusement or utilitarian for how I use it.

I could care less what others think of the looks of the truck or their assumptions of my manhood.

Yes. They are 'spare tire' wheels painted silver with eBay stainless trim rings added. And 235.75.15 tires, the largest fit w/o rubbing.

    :hattip:

It would need a couple days work to get that look back right now. It's been a year of neglect due to many reasons. But soon! It's a '13 with almost 30k on it. It deserves a bit of spit shine.

Almost? I think you mean "only" because damn that's really low miles. What prompted the switch to the spare steelies? I'm partial to the factory steelies personally.

    Almost because 29,xxx miles.

The spares are slightly more dished, allowing mounting of the trim rings. The look I was interested in.

This one's for my daughter. If I get another one I think I would like an access cab. I fit in this one but barely. They sure didn't make the regular cabs for a bigger guy. Also he's not lying I put almost 40,000 miles on this one in 2 years and I only drove it to work and back.

My 09 only has 250k on it.... probably because it was parked for a year before I got it.
