@G Tek Fab see what I mean? This is the alternative to a $400 intake kit that a lot of people will be looking for. I for one have been very pleased with mine.

Don't tell the CAI haters any of this ha. I loved the K&N full intake on my 2nd gen, but most bitch this is pointless. Noise is increased with any aftermarket intake solution.

I'm a believer, good luck all!

I was distracted by my Cowboys and didn't check the time stamp. It was 1.5 total and 20 minutes was grinding the fins (and trying a dremel tool I eventually gave up on).

I just snapped the fins off with wire cutters. And ground it flush with a carbide flute on a die grinder

Used an angle grinder at the open end and like you said, snapped off the fins towards the inside. Used the dremel sanding pad on my drill to smooth it down.

Keep the install technique suggestions coming rats! The instructions will eventually evolve with new ideas and pics.

    Strong work guys!

Back in 2007 when I did the first SABM on my tundra I uses a dremel cut off wheel on an 18v hitachi cordless screw gun, right handed tin snips and the dremel with a little sanding barrel.

I just need to see some interest so I can purchase a large batch of kit parts. The more I buy the better price I can get on them and the better price I can put on them.

This is a pointless mod if you are hoping for better fuel economy. No comment on increased hp, I'm waiting for the before/after dyno test though, without much expectation.

With closed loop efi and part throttle driving, which is 95% of the time for all of us, the intake is not the biggest restriction. The throttle plate itself is controlling the intake to create a large restriction to prevent your motor from accelerating beyond the speed you want to drive.

The 2 straw vs 1 straw analogy doesn't make sense unless you're at full throttle. Doesn't matter if you have 2 straws if your tongue is blocking 70 percent of your throat.

This fairly conclusive study done in 2009 found ZERO loss in mpg with air filters that were grossly clogged, clogged to the point that factory intakes started collapsing.

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/pdfs/Air_Filter_Effects_02_26_2009.pdf

Results show that clogging the air filter has no significant effect on the fuel economy of the newer vehicles (all fuel injected with closed-loop control and one equipped with MDS). The engine control systems were able to maintain the desired AFR regardless of intake restrictions, and therefore fuel consumption was not increased....Closed-loop control in modern fuel injected vehicle applications is sophisticated enough to keep a clogged air filter from affecting the vehicle fuel economy.

Horsepower will be reduced with a restricted intake for sure at full throttle.

I have 60K on my current OEM Toyota filter and still get 30+ mpg.

So you prefer anecdotal claims with over strictly measured standardized fuel test cycle. Science doesn't get out of the way.

It sure doesn't but you need to mr copy and paste.

This kit has proven successful in the 5.7L Tundra and now so far three 3.5L Tacoma owners are claiming positive results so bring on the dynotune numbers.

My first 5.7L test subject was a Toyota MDT (Master Diagnostic Technician) from Michigan. At that point I told myself if there are no significant gains I'll drop the project, but when he sent me a private message on my site (all in capitol letters from excitement) I told him to go ahead and post his results for all to see. I've been producing the 5.7 kit non stop since.

I'd be interested if I didn't have the K&N. If the price is right, I may swap back to factory and give it a shot to see how it is. See which one I like better.

Edit: Oh and my DSP still look brand new

I think I saw urd has an adapter that could put the 4.7 throttle body on the 3.5. If it's bigger and works then I could see it having a pretty big combined effect

Edit: I use the term "big" loosely here seeing that it's still just an intake improvement
